Pakistan’s first TVET Incubation Center established​

The launch ceremony of EMERGE, Pakistan’s first technical and vocational education and training (TVET) Incubation Centre was held recently. This initiative is a collaboration between The Hunar Foundation (THF) and Amir Sultan Chinoy Foundation (ASCF).The establishment of Emerge on THF’s Korangi campus was announced.

The incubation centre has been set up with the aim to combine entrepreneurial learning, industry insights and practices within the curriculum.

In addition, the faculty and mentors will aid in accelerating entrepreneurial learning. As part of the MoU signed between THF and ASCF earlier during 2023, EMERGE has been established with a donation provided by the Amir S. Chinoy Foundation with a vision to promote entrepreneurship and empower the youth of Pakistan.

“EMERGE will serve as a launch pad for young entrepreneurs. It is a space set to empower students through their incubation projects and help make a social and economic impact”, said Samir M. Chinoy, Chairman – ASCF who was present at the launch ceremony.

Eligible contestants include current students of THF. Student proposals reviewed and judged under the criteria of relevance, marketability, and social and environmental awareness by The Hunar Foundation (THF).

EMERGE aims to enable our youth with the power to establish their own enterprises, thus reviving the worsening unemployment situation and providing sustainability to the economic infrastructure in the long run” said Mr. Tahir Javaid, CEO – The Hunar Foundation. Through the collaboration between THF and ASCF, EMERGE is set to strengthen empowerment opportunities that can be sustained over time.
 

CPJRC, GIKI to collaborate in earth, engineering sciences​

ISLAMABAD, The China-Pakistan Joint Research Centre on Earth Sciences (CPJRC), China and the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute (GIKI) of Engineering Sciences and Technology signed an MoU on Sep. 7 to enhance collaborative efforts in earth and engineering sciences.

The agreement was executed by Dr. CUI Peng, Director CPJRC, and Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid, Rector GIKI, during an event held at the GIK Institute.

CPJRC, which operates under the China Academy of Science (CAS)’s Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, is dedicated to fostering cooperation in earth sciences. GIKI is a prestigious engineering institution in Swabi district of KP province.

The Rector GIKI said that the MoU provides a framework for both institutions to engage in joint research endeavours; secure research funding, and co-organize technical training programs, academic symposia, and international conferences.

Dr. CUI Peng underscored that this cooperative endeavour will centre its efforts on critical areas such as disaster prevention and mitigation, ecological economy with an emphasis on low carbon development, assessing resource and environment carrying capacity for regional sustainable development, as well as endeavours related to climate change mitigation and adaptation.

China and Pakistan will establish a joint research center in October to promote the study of Earth sciences and sci-tech exchanges, an official in charge of the center’s preparatory work said during the 2023 China International Fair for Trade in Services, APP reported.

According to Hong Tianhua, "China-Pakistan Joint Research Center on Earth Sciences will be established in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, in October as a high-level platform for scientific and technological innovation between the two countries to promote sci-tech cooperation and talent cultivation."

"The center is being initiated by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and is supported by the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment under the CAS and Quaid-i-Azam University in Pakistan," according to Xinhua.

Its establishment also incorporates universities in Pakistan, including the University of Peshawar, CAS-affiliated institutes, and other Chinese research organizations.

The center will conduct a collaborative study in four areas: resources, environment, and green development; geological formations and tectonic activity; climate change and environmental effects.

The center will also act as a facilitator for Chinese and Pakistani businesses and institutions looking to invest in each other's innovations.

In order to assist the development of the Belt and Road Initiative and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, Hong stated, "We hope to build a high-level platform for sci-tech cooperation between the two countries, and gradually extend it to neighboring countries."

Sino-Pak Bio health Agriculture Park inaugurated at University of Haripur



Sino-Pak Bio health Agriculture Overseas Sci-tech Demonstration Park was inaugurated at the University of Haripur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa last week.

The bio health agriculture park is a cooperation between the University of Haripur, Pakistan and Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University Xianyang, China.

“By sharing new technologies and crop varieties, the project aims to modernize Pakistan’s agriculture, increase productivity, and lift more people out of poverty,” Dr. Abdul Ghaffar, Postdoctoral fellow at North West A & F University told.

He said, the cultivation of Chinese and local high yielding varieties of different crops and vegetables remained a major area of cooperation.

The park will be constructed in three phases.

- In the first phase, a demonstration area will be established to plant crops with low input and high value addition.
- In the second phase, more will be invested in high-tech agricultural products. Joint efforts will also be made on talent training and agricultural laboratory establishment.
- The third phase will focus on agricultural macro monitoring, management and big data.

During the meeting, both sides agreed to extend cooperation in exchange for vegetables and other agricultural varieties through modern agricultural cooperation. They discussed many important aspects of the development of agriculture, especially how to increase yields, the quality of vegetables, fruit and agricultural crops.

The Chinese university delegation later also visited the University of Lahore to observe the field trials underway and the application of Nano biochar which proved effective in improving the yield of Okra, gourd, and eggplant.

They witnessed the research carried out including promotion of vegetable production through bio-healthy agriculture, physiological perspectives of salt tolerance in wheat, impacts of biofertilizers on salt stress tolerance and maize.

Bio-health Nano fertilizers adoption and applications for sustainable and climate-resilient farming in Pakistan, production of bioactive oligosaccharides from cress seed mucilage through microbial bioprocessing was also observed.
 

China-Pakistan Land Resources Institute launched in JCAT​

BEIJING, - The signing and inauguration ceremony of "China-Pakistan Land Resources Institute" took place at Jiangxi College of Applied Technology (JCAT) on Friday.

Afifa Shajia Awais, education attaché from the Embassy of Pakistan in China, congratulated the ceremony. She emphasized that educational cooperation is a crucial element of China-Pakistan collaboration. She hopes that the cooperation model of China-Pakistan joint training of professional talents, co-construction, and sharing of advanced vocational education concepts will lead to the training of more excellent Pakistani land resources survey and management professional and technical personnel. She stated that the embassy will continue to monitor the institute's development and provide necessary support.

Tao Xiaoju, Deputy Director General of Jiangxi Provincial Department of Natural Resources, participated in the ceremony. He introduced the overall development of Jiangxi and its distinctive mineral advantages. He proposed that the establishment of the institute represents a new milestone in the collaboration between China and Pakistan in the field of education, and another significant achievement of the amicable and pragmatic partnership between Jiangxi Province and Saindh Province.

He stated that the entire China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is marked by energy and mineral cooperation projects, which demand a significant number of skilled technical professionals specialized in land resources and mineral exploration. It is opportune for JCAT to collaborate with Pakistan, leveraging its expertise in land resource exploration and management.

In the future, over 20 Pakistani students will embark on a new learning journey in China. They will undergo professional technical training and learn the Chinese language to acquire the necessary skills to meet the demands of the international market.

Pak-China Collaborative College Unleashes Talents in Horticulture and Forestry​

KUNMING, Dec 27 (Gwadar Pro)- A Pakistani delegation led by Dr. Atta Ullah Shah, the President of Karakoram International University (KIU) in Pakistan, visited Yunnan Forestry Technological College to discuss the progress of their cooperative project, Sino-Pak Yunnan Forestry International College.

The International College was established in September, 2023 as a result of the initial visit of Dr. Atta Ullah Shah to the Yunnan Forestry Technical College earlier this year. Since establishment, the International College has offered two majors: Forestry Technology and Horticultural Technology. During the visit, delegates discussed enrollment, student management, Chinese language courses and the teaching of the first-semester curriculum.

Furthermore, both sides explored plans for integrating Chinese language education with vocational training in forestry and horticulture, as well as fostering faculty and student exchanges. Atta Ullah Shah believes that the incorporation of Chinese language education with vocational training will enable the students to contribute to Pak-China cooperation in horticulture and forestry sectors and the sustainable development of the related industries in both countries.

 

HEC sets up 100 smart classrooms nationwide​

ISLAMABAD (APP): The Higher Education Commission (HEC), with an unwavering commitment to advancing education in Pakistan, has achieved another milestone by successfully establishing 100 smart classrooms nationwide.

An online ceremony, led by Executive Director HEC Dr. Zia Ul-Qayyum, showcased the technological advancements these classrooms bring to higher education in Pakistan.

Chairman HEC Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad joined the ceremony alongside Vice Chancellors and senior management of universities/DAIs, while HEC Member (IT) Dr. Jamil Ahmad, Project Coordinator HEDP Dr. Mahmood ul Hassan, In-Charge IT Division Mr. Naveed Tahir, and Huawei’s team were also present on the occasion.

Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed congratulated the HEC IT Division and universities for the successful completion of this project.

He said that it is a significant milestone in higher education that will enhance the overall digital learning experience and elevate the quality of online education by fostering student engagement and facilitating a dynamic learning experience.

He also highlighted the transformative potential of these smart classrooms, describing them as a game-changer that will significantly benefit higher education in the country.

Dr. Zia Ul-Qayyum expressed gratitude to the Governments of Pakistan and China, M/s CRSC, and solution partner M/s Huawei for their support.

He emphasized the role of these state-of-the-art classrooms in enhancing the accessibility of distance learning education nationwide.

He said as a component of the HEC’s CPEC project, it enables simultaneous connections of 4000 participants, demonstrating a commitment to global education standards.

SCCI, UET to collaborate on research​


The Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in a bid to further improve industry-academia linkages.

According to a statement issued here on Friday, a signing ceremony was held at the chamber’s house in which SCCI President Muhammad Ishaq and Director Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (ORIC) UET Peshawar Dr Nasru Minallah inked the MoU.

Ishaq termed the signing of the MoU with UET a milestone step towards strengthening industry-academia linkages, saying the SCCI started a series of MoUs with public and private sector universities.

He elaborated that the MoU aimed at equipping graduates and young students with technical skills besides the completion of their academic pursuits so that it would enable them to get instant employment opportunities.
