Solar panel prices decline further in Pakistan

MAY 12, 2024

The prices of solar panels in Pakistan have experienced a substantial decline, making solar energy a more viable option for individuals and businesses.

As per reports, the price of solar panels has fallen by 53% in just one year, from Rs 80 per watt to Rs 37 per watt. This substantial decline is attributed to surplus supply within the domestic market and a decrease in international prices.

Over the past six months alone, prices have plummeted by approximately 30%, making panels from various brands available for roughly Rs 37 per watt.

As a result of this price adjustment, the price of a 5-kilowatt solar system has notably decreased to Rs 2,15,000 compared to the previous year. Consequently, the overall expense associated with acquiring such systems has diminished by a staggering Rs 4,30,000.

While the reduction in solar panel prices brings about positive implications for consumers seeking affordable renewable energy solutions, it’s important to note that prices for inverters and batteries have remained unchanged amidst this shift.

Solar panels should be a basic for every household in Pakistan and we should look for ways to make them cheap and available especially in rural villages
Pakistanis living abroad just need to help people in rural areas buy the equipment.

At some point the country needs to stand up and give Pakistani the opportunity to succeed away from corruption, feudalism and crap

So true brother, likewise my family too has given so much over the years. The people there are literally hooked on free money, and have absolutely no intention of improving themselves.

I no longer donate to Pakistan, except to immediately family on a sporadic basis. There are other deserving out there in the world. Not these leeches.

They need to wake up, I was born in the UK, but like many first Gen immigrants I have a strong connection to my parents country and I speak the language, and over the years have gone back and tried to help as best I could even if just go for a holiday and spend money

But my kids and the next gen of kids, sometimes don't even speak good urdu or native languages, they speak English

These guys and families will eventually move on with their lives

It's upto Pakistan to understand how important the diaspora is
Pakistan needs to be smart, grab these people and give them.a reason to come home
Give them a reason to connect to Pakistan
Invest in Pakistan
Even hide their money and resources in Pakistan

Do something before its too late and the next generation give up and get on with their lives in other countries

India is a shit hole, but they have done much to try and connect and attract Indian foreigners

Imran Khan at least understood e tried to give us the vote, make laws to make investments easier, gave options etc
People trusted and liked him

These clowns now are just ufff, I can't find the words
Pakistan just meanders underneath these idiots and the country goes nowhere..it's vital they don't fcuk this up like the tens times in the past

Govt is Ending Solar Net Metering Next Month

Net metering should not be a concern. The prices have fallen so much and the trend in both solar and battery is going to be downward that self consumption will still be much more economical than grid.

And it’s not just electricity cost one can save. If a house moves to solar and including electric water heater, stove and heaters then gas cost can also be saved. Basically, the whole thing will pay itself off in a couple of years.

your unconsumed units are saved by net metering with the electric supply company.

when a solar system does not make electricity i.e. at night time or during cloudy weather, your saved units with grid balance it out.

if net metering is given up, consumers will use grid generated electricity during night, that will be charged.

for how much does a solar system cost you, has nothing to do with how much prices go down for a solar system, it is your investment.

besides ending net metering will provide grid with electricity that is generated by you and they will be selling it at high cost to consumers. how is it fair?

That’s why I pointed to battery. The projections are they will see significant drop in the coming years just like solar.

I didn’t get this part:

“for how much does a solar system cost you, has nothing to do with how much prices go down for a solar system, it is your investment.”

You should make it domestically with some china or turkyie partners companies along, create some more jobs then trading ones.

i was referring to cost of solar and batteries that is although going down, it is still an investment. and this trend will be temporary, demand always balance out the cost.

Look at the past 30 year trend data. Fluctuations will happen but the trend will be downwards.

Solar is the most abundant of the renewables in Pakistan and among the best spots in the world. It's not just about power but also gives the ability to create drinking water from salt water, the production of food, production of chemicals etc.
It's awful how Pakistan hasn't made any big forays into this, despite being blessed with powerful sunshine.
