MDK good news from Roketsan: Precision hitting ability for howitzers​


MDK-Distance-Correction-Kit


Important progress has been made in the Distance Correction Kit (MDK), developed by Roketsan with national resources. 155mm howitzers gain precision strike capability.
Roketsan is preparing to launch the Distance Correction Kit , for which it continues its development activities. MDK will be made available to the Turkish Land Forces Command; It will provide guidance capability to the ammunition used by platforms such as FIRTINA Howitzer, enabling more precise hits.

Finally, system qualification tests were successfully completed within the scope of the project. Within the scope of the tests, the targets were hit with a deviation of less than 50 meters in the shootings made with the T-155 FIRTINA Self-Propelled Howitzer. MDK stands out with its insensitivity to electronic deception and jamming and electronic warfare methods. It was reported that MDK is 5 times more effective than unguided munitions.
Turkish Armed Forces use artillery systems very actively in both domestic and international operations due to their different advantages such as ease of use. Currently, artillery howitzers are the main fire support means of the Turkish Land Forces. Some guidance kits that would provide guidance capability to artillery shells had previously been designed in the foreign market, but such a product had not been supplied by the Land Forces Command before.


Roketsan developed MDK within the scope of the development and mass production contract signed with SSB. MDK; It turns an unguided artillery projectile into a guided one simply by using a different fuze. On the other hand, MDK can also be used in the 105mm BORAN howitzer.

E-FIRTINA Howitzer was showcased in the EFES-2024 Exercise
( Hybrid - Electric )




The most important features of the E-FIRTINA are that it does not leave thermal traces and moves silently ...... very low fuel consumption, long life and low maintenance costs

Within the scope of the project, the design, production, mechanical and electronic integration, software creation and commissioning of the hybrid drive system were carried out with the contract signed between MKE and ANZATSAN Engineering.


In this way, foreign dependency, especially in engine and transmission, will be eliminated

Is the domestic powerpack fully ready? when is the mass production date?

its been a bit dead here for the last couple fo weeks b/c the site has been down and up, hopefully when it stabilizes, we will see more activity.
 
Turkish laser guided 155mm excalibur will be first showed in SAHA expo, they al ready tested it. 25 km range, we learned in Ukraine war how important artillery fire is. Turkish TB2 with right EW/ECM equipment can operate in EW environment like the operations in Syria. Still the day.

This is good and it has its own advantages, but its a little different from Excalibur, this is more like the Russian Krasnopol(laser guided).

This requires a laser guider which would require something to light up the target, which would mean you have to have the target lit up, which means the target must be in line of sight, whereas the excalibur shells are GPS guided as well as an inertial navigation mechanism to account for GPS spoofing and Electronic warfare.

I think Laser should be more accurate in an EW heavy environment compared to GPS guided and even inertial navigation, but would require line of site.

I do hope they build a GPS and inertial guidance Artillery shell It would be quite advantageous to deploy as there would be no need for a spotter. just get intelligence for example on a PKK facility, don't need to wait for a TB2 to get airborne, just send the coordinates to a nearby Artillery unit of Firtinas and they would be able to put shots downrange within minutes.

Türkiye must definitely develop a GPS-INS guided ammunition similar to EXCALIBUR which can hit the targets with point accuracy from 50 km away


Countries like USA , Russia , China have laser guided artillery shell
now Turkiye gets this capability
