Democrats have nominated and conformed their fair share of activist judges as well.

Yes they have. But they have not gone out of the way to block/hamstring the president (maybe they never got the chance). I do recall in Bush's last 2 years when Dems had control of both houses, they played along with all the admin asks. They could have hamstrung the gov especially during the financial meltdown.
