Last summer I dropped my wallet somewhere near Beijing Shuangjing area, in the wallet it had about a thousand or two thousands yuan , several bankcards and my ID card. I didn't realize I lost my wallet, the police must have got my number through my ID card and called me, I was startled big time when answering the phone hearing the person saying "This is Shuangjing police station, are you .....?

It turned out someone found it and handed it to the police station, everything was there, not a penny less.

This girl is an avid global traveller who has visited dozens of dozens countries, after living in China for a while she says China is the only place where she would leave her belongings everywhere with zero worries that someone may take them.

Same thing already happens in 1st world Muslim countries, like the Gulf.

Happens also sometimes in Pakistan too, even in poorer areas. Ofc you'll always find people who won't return it, even in China.

Read the comment section, many people shared their own experience of losing something in China and also their personal experience of losing something in some "developed" countries.

China was last in this survey...only 14% return rate.

Apparently more organized than a single guy with a videocamera in one Chinese city.
Then read the comment section and see what people have to say about their own personal experience in this matter, in many cities around the world.

Lol, the only contact to return the wallet was an email address, and not many people in China use email to connect with people. A similar study in the following article found that the Chinese returned the wallets more than 80% of the incidents when other contact methods popular in China were included.
