Let me inaugurate this section with the launch of the Yaogan-41 Satellite.
An auspicious beginning
The Yaogan-41 is an optical observation satellite in geosynchronous orbit. It's thought to use a silicon-carbide mirror of diameter at least 3m, potentially 4m, made by the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics, and Physics (CIOMP). Incidentally, CIOMP is also involved in the secretive Chinese effort to construct an extreme ultraviolet lithography scanner, an effort I won't go into great detail into here.
