I don't know why many Pakistanis are taking the following as an insult. Afterall, Al Jazeera has a point.
Pakistanis need to use these 'foreign policy gains' as a springboard to grab even bigger opportunities and successes at the global stage. However, to achieve that, Pakistan must develop better human resources, expand its industrial base and capacity, ensure consistency in its policies, and above all improve internal security.
Pakistan seriously lacks production capacity. If Pakistan, for example, gets good trade deals by virtue of the current high ride (on diplomatic front), there is not much that Pakistan can export to the world.
Our industrialists want to make easy money by producing low quality traditional products or exporting raw materials.
- Pakistan is the 4th largest producer of milk in world and a major producer of corn. And yet, Pakistan's dairy and maze exports are negligible.
- Pakistan is the 5th largest producer of mangos (and Chaonsa can easily trash Indian alphonso) and a major producer of citric fruits and yet there is zero exports of orange juice or mango products (pulp and juice).
- Pakistani peaches and strawberries are of very high quality in terms of taste and aroma, yet zero exports. Same applies to blackberries (i.e. toot and shahtoot).
- Pakistani rice is one of the best in world and yet our exporters send the container ships full of raw, unprocessed, and unpolished rice sold very cheap to UAE based Indians who process/polish in the UAE and rebrand it all as Indian produce in attractive packagings.
Why can't Pakistani investor has joint ventures with Saudi or UAE investor to build plants for producing milk products, processing/polishing rice, producing/packing different types of juices, and maze products for not only the domestic market but also export to ME, Far East, Japan, and Europe.
