H-1B visas must end’: Wife of US citizen shares plight of landing IT jobs

@r3alist bro

But I suppose the logic is to tip labour supply more favorably to us citizens. Numbers can be rejigged for huge corporates

Yes, if the said US citizens are good enough for these jobs.

Regards

As I always keep saying, all these new regulation will result in more jobs in India

As I have often said, gravity makes water flow downhill; so no surprises. But it wouldn't hurt to see fewer Indians coming here after looking at what has become of Canada! Haha!

I don't particularly care about the H1B debate being selfishly focused on my own retirement which is close. If the current squeeze on H1b helps ME then that's enough. But I am deeply resentful to have lost my Federal job to DOGE when DOGE was the rage shortly after Trump became the President and deeply resentful that a few promising Federal jobs are in a limbo because of the Goddamn longest Federal govt shut down in American history and I am deeply resentful that these things happening so close to my retirement otherwise I could have saved some chunk of $$! Talk about the timing! But thank God I had planned to take shocks in life so no $ worries for quite a while.

Valid points. If India can attract the more experienced ones back, in sufficient numbers, I wonder if they will adapt back as if working in India, or bring USA thinking into Indian corporates

India doesn't have enough jobs for its large number of graduates every year and India, into the foreseeable future, will not be able to provide enough jobs even if large American companies open offices in India. Plus the pay and the remittance of Indians in Western countries are also a big factor helping India compared with Indians working inside India.
Fact is that severely overpopulated, resource-scarce countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh etc etc would love to send people overseas, especially the Gulf, Europe and Western countries.

I actually saw a very upscale and fancy ad by JP Morgan today talking abt work life balance for female professionals, they seem to be going big on wanting to recruit ppl in Bangalore for higher end jobs.. As I always keep saying, all these new regulation will result in more jobs in India

Work life balance and investment banking don't go together. Well possible in Tech teams. I would rather join buy-side....
Overall, many jobs are going to come to India (with or without AI). No 1 reason is someone needs people in the post AI world as well (JD might be different). And India has people in plenty. So any knowledge economy related developments will favor India in the medium to long run

There is probably some truth in that, I can't say, nonetheless they are theoretically amongst the best USA has and those aspects do not preclude them or change that
Some of my best candidates are from flagship state universities. The best value for money has been stellar candidates from lesser-known universities in the middle of nowhere

Sorry to hear about DOGE experience. Is postponing your retirement by 2 years an option?

Thanks.
Yes, postponing is a bitter option because wife is ten years younger, and still working, and that complicates retirement for me. You know, both husband and wife retire together.

It is an ideal situation

Right.
Well, there is one couple in my circle here. Wife around 64 and husband 59. Wife retired at 62 and flipping channels and sleeping in; he drives long ways to work and is always tired, and can't wait to retire but can't until 62 but he may still do that because he is sick of working! Theirs is not a happy house even though, blessedly, 'child free'!

Right.
Why buy a Mercedes when a Corolla would do the job??

@Meengla @nahtanbob

You Yanks really have extravagant lifestyles. If an Indian couple are both working middle class jobs, they can look for a comfortable retirement rather than chase jobs in 60s. And if child free, balle balle!

Why wouldnt they be?

They have to be.

Trump has ordered it

The H1B want to graduate to green card and then to citizens. So they keep most of their savings in the USA and send a minor percentage home. If a GCC is opened in India, the complete salary is foreign exchange coming into India. So even if the salary is a fraction of that of the H1B, the foreign exchange coming in may very well be more.

Currently, as people have to come back, the will be closing their USA bank account and liquidating their USA assets and bringing them back. We might see a surge because of that.
