This Tuesday, I was playing golf, and the entire conversation during the game was about Indians in the IT industry and their meticulous planning and scheming.

My neighbor asked me other day why my car is always in the driveway. She said, “Were you also replaced by cheap labor?” Then she mentioned that some of her church members are also driving for Uber or Uber Eats, and so on.

Putting the India–Pakistan rivalry aside, these H-1B workers aren’t appearing out of nowhere, they come legally and work their way up. Plus, if they are scheming then others also have option for planning for scheming. So there's no excuse but, I do see the hate firsthand — and it’s not healthy; it’s scary.

The corporations will have to come up with better reasons for bringing in H-1Bs if there are enough Americans available for those jobs.

Maybe there ain't? Didn't Trump say that America needs immigrants because many of these skills are not available? And if available, are they available at the same price points as H1B workers are?

I believe, companies are now avoiding H1B's. I had 3 interviews in last 3 months.

2 times interviewer was H1B or H4. Hate to say, but they were nothing but worst scums.

Thanks. Could the native American borns have avoided the situation by accepting lower wages and/or longer working hours etc. I presume if their labour was available at the same rate as Indians they would prefer locals (as @NGAD IS THE BEST assures me that the locals have 1000% higher IQ than Indians I would think that quality wasn't an issue)

That is a fair question. Being an engineer by training, I will focus on the demand for engineers.

A current search shows the US is graduating 141,000 engineers annually. This includes BS, MS, and PhD awards. On the other hand, the demand is for 400,000 NEW engineers per year. This includes 195,000 solely due to employment growth as well as replacements for those who leave the field. In that regard, President Trump is correct: we have a shortfall.

A very real example of this: the new TSMC campus in northwest Phoenix: TSMC brought in 1000 engineers from Taiwan to assist an equal number of US engineers to get the fabs up and on line as quickly as possible. The UA, ASU, and NAU cannot graduate engineers fast enough to fill those jobs.

Interestingly, the biggest engineering field seeing a decline in new graduates is electrical engineering. This is ironic in that the declines in semiconductor manufacturing in the US has been a contributor. Now, that is starting to reverse due to the CHiPs Act. But will the US recover? As noted above, the three state schools cannot graduate engineers fast enough and across the US, the situation is not much better. It's odd because when I was in engineering school, easily 30% of the guys in my dorm were studying EE.

The biggest growth area? Interestingly is in IE. And we (DHL) have quite a few IEs on staff.

In the field of engineering, the US will have no choice but to recruit H-1Bs for years to come until the US schools are graduating sufficient numbers to meet industry demand and growth.

Eerily similar stuff going on in UK. British trained junior doctors are on a 5 day strike this week because they can't get jobs in UK. I know some who left med school and are working in supermarkets - i kid you not. And yet, we are still fast tracking foreign trained doctors for work in those positions that the British graduates cannot acquire!

Make it make sense.

Some posters here will argue that the "foreign grads will do the donkey work that UK grads won't and/or for less pay", but this argument falls flat in the healthcare industry because standard pay in the NHS is fixed for everyone, regardless of where they trained, and the "donkey work" is also standardised for all junior doctors. Something is really off.

Hate to say it, but I was living in a bubble for the last 25 years — work, home, weekends with family, and so on. So I never really noticed who was Native, Sri Lankan, etc.

But I do admire Arabs — almost 90% of them run their own businesses, whether small or big.

India has one of the highest youth unemployment % in the world - higher than Pakistan jbtw. Also, India has a very high income disparity, again more disparity than Pakistan. A macro number like GDP or 5 trillion might make you happy but if you dig a little down the surface - wealth concentration, high income disparity, high youth unemployment, no hope in manu sector will tell you why indians are running to the west. Just to give you an idea, from what i remember, there are more people than Pakistan’s whole population in India which earn less than 3 dollars a day. India is extremely poor.

Arabs are more incompatible with the west than Indians tbh. They also are not highly educated, combative, aggressive and deeply racist.
