About a year ago i criticized Asim Munir in a thread which led to an argument with a member whose only defense was that Asim Munir is a “Syed,” and therefore should be above accountability for that reason.

Is that splitting KPK and Baluchistan into smaller provinces with an eye towards smoother mineral mining ? The former fata will become a new province and some parts of Baluchistan another new province ?

Personally I would only support creating a new province out of the entire coast of Pakistan, with Karachi as its capital. The new province would be focused on exports.

I would also support creating a new Seraiki province out of south Punjab. It would to a long way to breaking some political mafias.

Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political and Public Affairs Rana Sanaullah has said that the government will soon introduce the 28th Constitutional Amendment and expressed confidence that the new amendment bill 'will secure' parliamentary approval.

Speaking to journalists in Chiniot, Sanaullah said the proposed amendment would focus on local bodies, the National Finance Commission (NFC) and health matters. He added that consultations on these subjects were ongoing. “If consensus is achieved, the government can move forward with formally presenting the 28th Amendment in the parliament,” he said.

Sanaullah also commented on the recent resignations of two Supreme Court judges and one Lahore High Court judge, saying the parliament had the constitutional right to pass the amendments, and judges were bound by their oath to uphold them. “It does not befit any judge to involve themselves in political protests,” he said. “Those who stepped down did so due to their personal motives.”

Last week, President Asif Ali Zardari signed the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill into law, following its approval by both houses of the parliament. With the president's assent, the Bill has now formally become part of the Constitution of Pakistan. Following the approval of the amendment, senior-most judges of the Supreme Court, Justices Mansoor Ali Shah and Athar Minallah, tendered their resignations.

ISLAMABAD: The newly constituted Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) on Monday began hearing cases at the Islamabad High Court (IHC) building, with the chief justice’s courtroom previously used by IHC Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani.

The court, formed under the 27th Constitutional Amendment, also expanded to seven judges with the induction of Justice Syed Arshad Hussain Shah and Justice Rozi Khan Barrech.

Justice Shah served as the chief judge of the Gilgit-Baltistan Supreme Appellate Court from 2019 to 2022 while Justice Barrech was elevated to the FCC from the Balochistan High Court (BHC) where he had been serving as the chief justice since June this year.

According to sources, the FCC will be permanently established in the IHC building located on Islamabad’s Constitution Avenue, while the IHC itself will be shifted back to its old building in the G-10 sector of the federal capital and the relocation process is expected to be completed by January.

Items from the third floor of the current IHC building have already been moved to the G-10 premises. Assistant Registrar Mohammad Asad had been appointed supervisor for the transfer of records.

At IHC’s Courtroom No 2—formerly Justice Kayani’s courtroom—a simple handwritten slip reading “Chief Justice, Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan” was pasted at the entrance.

Honestly, i am happy with this amendment, these judges screwed Pakistan and its abotut time they get screwed

Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail of the Supreme Court's now-defunct Constitutional Bench has reaffirmed his decision regarding 39 reserved seats but maintained that the majority ruling, which denied Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-backed Sunni Ittehad Council candidates 41 other seats, cannot stand.

In his 12-page additional note, Justice Mandokhail said the ruling must be reviewed, terming the majority's intervention an "excess of authority." He stated that the court did not have the authority to declare the 41 candidates as independent, saying the decision does not align with the Constitution or facts.

Four judges of the Islamabad High Court have prepared a draft petition to challenge the 27th Constitutional Amendment, it is learnt on Thursday.

According to the sources, a draft petition has been prepared and forwarded to the apex court for filing, with the formal submission expected later.

Justices Mohsin Akhtar Kiani and Babar Sattar are among the applicants, while Justices Saman Rafat Imtiaz and Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan are also part of the group contesting the legislation.

However, sources within the Supreme Court said, no petition from the Islamabad High Court judges had been received so far. Officials of the newly established Federal Constitutional Court similarly stated that they also had not yet received any application challenging the amendment.

The 27th Constitutional Amendment, which became law after receiving the president’s assent, has triggered widespread criticism from opposition parties, lawyers, judges and legal commentators, who have described it as an assault on the constitutional and fiduciary principles.

In protest over the amendment’s approval, the senior-most judges of the Supreme Court — Justices Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Athar Minallah — resigned, calling the move 'a grave assault on the Constitution of Pakistan'.

The fallout has continued to deepen, fuelling speculation that more resignations may follow. Under the new constitutional framework, the Supreme Court now stands subordinate to the Federal Constitutional Court.

The amendment introduces sweeping institutional changes. Under revised Articles 199 and 200, the president is empowered to transfer high court judges between provinces on the recommendation of the Judicial Commission, with any judge declining transfer, deemed retired.

Article 248 has been amended to grant the president lifetime legal immunity, which is waived only if the individual assumes public office again.

Changes to Article 243 abolish the office of the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee from November 27, 2025, concentrating strategic military authority under the Chief of the Defence Forces.
