Iranian Air Force (IRIAF/IRGC-ASF) | News and Discussions

The F14 is still a potent machine, if only it were armed with an AIM54 in its original state, or with an equivalent weapon. As far as I know, the Fakur 90 is not at all the same as the AIM54 missile. And it really should be able to copy it. The enemies are still afraid of it. It is even possible that the old radar technology is not a disadvantage but an advantage.

I understand that the export of the SU 57E has begun and 3 production lines will be producing the machines.

the year is 2025
This is true, but the radars and the range of the AIM 54 are still comparable to today's aircraft. Its speed and moving wings make its flight performance excellent. The F14 is an American masterpiece. Don't forget that the F15 is the same age as it.

So, why did the Americans stop manufacturing them and what has Iran contributed to the aircraft in the last four decades?

misleading at best.

More to performance than range. For both Radar and Missiles. If range was the key decider, then the Mig 31 and R37 combo would rule the skies.

good stuff, if we were still in the 60's/70's and dogfighting was relevant

how many F-15A's still exist? the US retired their last one 15 years ago, so once again, a misleading argument. Is the F-15 still the same today as it was during its introduction- no. Is the F-14? Yes.

I think the F14 would be ideal for Iran because it was designed for the navy at the time, but not to fight air battles, but to protect aircraft carriers from drones and missiles against Russian ships. The F4 and F18 aircraft were there for air combat. Everything served this purpose, the radar, AIM54, the long range, the variable wing. How this aircraft ended up in Iran is a miracle. The F16 F15 would have been a real contender, but the Shah, I think, chose this aircraft after a demonstration. For this purpose, against drones, cruise missiles, and missiles, it would still be good in its original form.

Good plane...but not really stealth. I maybe wrong, but I'm not convinced it's an effective platform, we need stealth that can match the enemies BVR capabilities. I read a lot about Su-57, it's huge....bad ass, no doubt, but hard to miss from a 200 miles away. If only we could get a cheaper, more stealthier aircraft to be able to put in the air against the F-35s in larger numbers, swarming them....the enemy may be able to take out 2, but there is a good chance the 3rd one could score a kill against their 100 million dollar aircraft....after they lose one or two aircraft, their confidence would be shaken.

how can any Iranian turn up their nose at the su57? Iran has NO other practical choice of any other platform at all. A tiny chance at the J35A but given how few there are Chinese modern aircraft in the Iranian airforce, I don’t see Iran getting the J35A until it inducts something like the J10Ce first ….

Iran cannot develop a stealth platform on its own at all. This is the only chance Iran has, period… Iranians need to move their heads out of their fantasies and deal with the reality of the actual choices they have…

What other stealth plane do you think Iran can buy?
