It is true that the Indian carriers have literally never been beyond 500 miles from India's coastline?

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched its latest communication satellite, GSAT-7R (CMS-03), from Sriharikota today. The 4,410 kg satellite, to be placed in a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) using the LVM3-M5 rocket, is the heaviest launched from Indian soil. Designed to enhance the Indian Navy’s space-based communication and maritime domain awareness, GSAT-7R marks a major step in strengthening defence communication capabilities.

The LVM3-M5, also known as ‘Bahubali’, stands 43.5 metres tall and can carry payloads up to 4,000 kg to GTO. This will be the rocket’s fifth operational flight, following its success with Chandrayaan-3 in 2023. The three-stage launcher used solid boosters, liquid propulsion, and a cryogenic stage for heavy payload capacity. Once operational, the GSAT-7R satellite will provide secure multi-band communication coverage across India and the surrounding oceanic region.
