JF-17 - Updates, News & Discussion

They have no air force : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyrgyz_Air_Force

Unlikely they will go for it imho, unless they want to start having an airforce if new threats have arisen for them?

Most countries try to have a token Airforce as a "just in case" Central Asia has a lot of disputes over water resources so the "just in case" Might be useful to not get pushed around.

AI says Kyrgyzstan has historically faced significant and sometimes violent issues with neighbouring countries, especially with Tajikistan. However, recent diplomatic efforts (especially in 2025) have produced a formal border agreement and a trialogue with Uzbekistan, which may mark the beginning of a more stable regional era. That said, underlying tensions, over land, water, ethnic communities and resource management, remain delicate and require careful long-term attention.

I think they realise the need for a strong air force is now paramount.

Apparently, Pakistan has publicly offered to help “build Kyrgyzstan’s air force,” implying potential defence cooperation, training, and possibly technology/aircraft transfer.

So if a Chinese publication didn’t post anything about it…it didn’t happen?
After seeing the news, I did extensive research but couldn't find it. There are many self-media outlets in China, and if such information existed, it would be impossible not to find it. Many self-media sources are of poor quality and provide unreliable information. For example, some time ago, many self-media outlets hyped up the news that Pakistan had betrayed China's friendship. Can you find this news on your side? Due to the wide circulation, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs specifically addressed this issue, stating that it was false information aimed at undermining the relations between the two countries. I will translate the response and put it below; the source is Chinese official media.

Currently, there is evidence that the United States, Israel, Japan, and Taiwan have consistently waged an information war against China. If other countries want to disrupt China-Pakistan relations, they might use the same methods in Pakistan. Therefore, I hope that friend can provide reliable sources. This is not an intentional accusation, but a hope for everyone to see the truth.

China and Pakistan maintain an equal relationship, and both countries develop friendly, cooperative, and mutually beneficial relations based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. The Chinese government's assessment of Pakistan is that it is a good neighbor connected by mountains and rivers, a good friend with mutual trust, a good partner in mutual assistance, and a good brother in adversity. This content comes from official media.

The Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence are: mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-aggression, non-interference in each other's internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, and peaceful coexistence.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs: China's announcement of export control measures on rare earths and related items has no connection with Pakistan

Beijing, Xinhua News Agency, October 13 (Reporter Shao Yibo) — Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated on the 13th that China's recent announcement of export control measures on rare earths and related items has no connection with Pakistan. This is a legitimate action by the Chinese government to improve its own export control system in accordance with laws and regulations.

At the regular press conference on the same day, a reporter asked: Recently, some media reports claimed that Pakistan used Chinese equipment and technology to export rare earths to the United States, prompting China to introduce new regulations for strict control over the export of rare earth-related technologies. Some self-media posted videos and articles stating that "Pakistan gave rare earth samples to the U.S. and agreed to carry out rare earth cooperation" and "China takes countermeasures against Pakistan's export of rare earths to the U.S." What is the spokesperson's comment on this?

Lin Jian said that China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic cooperative partners, and their steadfast friendship has stood the test of time. The two sides always maintain a high degree of strategic mutual trust and closely communicate on major issues concerning their common interests.

"As far as I know, regarding the mineral cooperation between Pakistan and the U.S., the two sides have communicated, and Pakistan emphasized that its interactions with the U.S. will never harm China's interests or China-Pakistan cooperation," Lin Jian said. "The mineral samples shown and given by Pakistani leaders to U.S. leaders are raw sapphire samples purchased by their staff. The reports you just mentioned either do not understand the facts, are groundless rumors, or even attempts to sow discord."

Lin Jian emphasized that China's recent announcement of export control measures on rare earths and related items has no connection with Pakistan. This is a legitimate action by the Chinese government, based on laws and regulations, to improve its own export control system. It aims to better safeguard world peace and regional stability and fulfill international non-proliferation obligations.

The new Ambassador of Pakistan to Kirghizstan is a very talented and patriotic guy Altamash Wazir Khan. Knew him when he was in school. Has been deployed in central Asia for most of his career with Pakistani foreign office, and speaks Russian like a native.
Most probably the JF-17 visit was his idea and arrangement.

we're just overreading.

every delegation/head of state gts a jf17 tour lol

for this to happen,

it would need to be an entire bottom to top overhaul, with also doctrine development, hiring of new crews etc.

id say cows would fly before this happens. Better push would be shahpar

Tanzania has more chance of buying JF-17 in small numbers than Kyrgyzstan due to limited budget.

Yes, they dont even have an air force, but PAC and other related industries have a lot more to offer than just JF-17.
But i am very hopeful with Altamash, that he will push the Pakistan Kyrghez relations to a new level. The guy has developed personal links all over central asia during his deployment, and is people's person.

once again... with a defence budget of $470 million, we can keep dreaming.

JF-17 procurement itself for a squadron would be far in excess of that.

Maybe we can sell them like...3...
