XAC Y-20 - China's giant bird … Plus the smaller brother Y-15

This one has 2 pairs of landing wheels on each side. A400M has 3 pairs each side.
Any estimate of how much cargo it can carry. A potentially good replacement for the Y-9, as the basis for the next generation Chinese medium AWACS, ISR, Tanker, and MPA roles; unless the PLAAF wants to base these platforms on the C919.

According to the US website The War Zone and videos captured by netizens, Shaanxi Aircraft Industry Corporation has conducted a test flight of the Y-30 transport aircraft.

The Y-30 medium transport aircraft is equipped with four turboprop engines. Reports indicate that the Y-30 was developed to fill the gap in transport capacity between the Y-9 and Y-20. The Y-30 is capable of taking off and landing on rough runways.

AI "Enhanced" image of the new bird. She looks pretty(that is part of my criteria for success!).

I do wonder what engines it is using, and how efficient they are and whether the design will allow for a different engine to be used.
Imagine turning this into an AC-130 style gunship, or a cruise missile truck like this...

This aircraft, if it has similar austere landing and takeoff capabilities (especially short takeoffs) as the A-400M, could make an ideal aircraft to support Chinese UN peacekeepers as well as engineers for Chinese commercial companies globally, especially in developing countries.

Btw, this may also spell the end of the Y-9 program, and create a significant enough successor to the Y-8, that China may transition away from the Y-8 and Y-9 over the next 10-15 years, to adopting this as the mainstay standard turboprop transport, leveraging economies of scale to keep costs low, and also seize a potentially large commercial export market.

Most likely on Y-15, it will be the backbone and mass produced, it solved a lot of problems on the old Y-8 and Y-9.
It is a much needed platform for PLA.

Yes, this plane has the kind of features you're talking about.

Also, compared to the C919, with the use of a turboprop, it can have better fuel economy, allowing greater endurance on patrol, while having speed perhaps only 100 kmph slower than a turbofan powered aircraft.

Military aircraft like the AC-130 and A-10 are primarily used to overpower weaker opponents. They do not align with China's formal combat doctrine.

But,

when the time is right, China may modify some of these aircraft. They would primarily be used for the export market and for special counter-terrorism operations. China will not deploy these types of weapons on a large scale.

Maybe. China might develop a UAV for this purpose for PLAGF.

I can envision this plane as a star feature in the next wolf warrior movie. UN peacekeepers rescuing engineers in a remote work site, during a chaotic change in government.

Any indication which company produces this plane? And which engines are used?

The Y-30 was developed by Shaanxi Aircraft Corporation, a subsidiary of AVIC, and is powered by four six-blade turboprop engines. More information will need to wait.

Once engine information is made public, if this aircraft is confirmed to be able to carry at least 40 tons, it’s possible this could be able to carry the new Type 100 tank. Being able to deploy those tanks to remote landing sites, on pacific islands or on the Tibetian plateau (or even the Korean Peninsula, in case of a contingency), in remote locations, rapidly and enmasse, could shape battlefields in profound ways.

The added electrical power of the more powerful engines could ale it a more capable platform as replacement for all the Y-9 variant, such as the standoff jammer.

Hahaha, my friend, you have a deep understanding of the role of transport aircraft.

I would say it would be closer to C-130 than A400M. After all, China has its own dedicated strategic lifters (Y-20). This one could be a pure tactical one.
