Hangor Class Submarine | Updates & Discussion

yes it is solved now , first hangor should be commissioned in feb 2026

Chinese diesel engines for the Hangor-class submarines are the CHD620, a domestically developed alternative to German MTU engines, used in Pakistan's new submarines based on China's Yuan-class design, providing enhanced stealth and underwater endurance via AIP, significantly boosting Pakistan's naval power.

The CHD620 is a Chinese-made diesel engine, specifically a licensed, Chinese-produced version of Germany's MTU396 engine, designed for submarines, notably for Thailand's Yuan-class submarines and Pakistan Navy's Hangor-class, replacing the German engines initially sought after due to export restrictions, offering comparable performance with guarantees from China.

I remember the Germans back in 2010 laughing at how the Chinese couldn't produce large boring machines used for construction of underground roads, train networks etc. Now China dominates that market with machines known for their superb quality.

The Chinese are today literally laughing at the Germans. From wrecking German car industry to everything else. The Chinese are having the last laugh.

Good long may it continue.
Gives me great joy seeing the rise of an Asian power and also one that is close to us.

Exactly. China has proved one thing very strongly. The more the Western countries try to push it into a corner, the more assertive China becomes and responds with its own solutions. China has essentially red faced the Western countries to a point where even propaganda isn't effective anymore.

One fun fact people might not know.

PNS/M Hangor (S-131) (nicknamed: "Shark") was a Daphné-class diesel-electric submarine that served in the Pakistan Navy from 1969 until its decommissioning in 2006. It is the first submarine to sink a ship after World War II. Hangor (S-131), under the command of Commander Ahmed Tasnim, sank the Indian Navy's INS Khukri, an anti-submarine frigate, with one homing torpedo on 9 December 1971 during the western front of the third war with India in 1971

The Chinese Hangor-class submarine is named after PNS/M Hangor (S-131).

Many years ago, a reporter asked Elon Musk: "What do you think of BYD's electric cars?"
Elon Musk didn't answer directly, but simply burst into laughter. It was clear he completely looked down on BYD.

If he were asked the same question today, how would he answer?

This is the reality and face of how delusional most Americans and Europeans are with respect to what China and its companies can do.........They still think China is some backwater country for cheap manufacturing.

It seems Germans are not providing diesel engines for the Hangor subs. Hopefully,it is solved

It "seems" Germans are not providing............ its 5 years old news!

Everybody here already knows about it. That caused atleast 2-3 years delay in Hangor subs delivery. Otherwise, first 4 were to be delivered before 2024. We already tracked every bit of progress in this forum and its predecessor forum. It was already discussed when few years ago Chinese CHD engine got certification.

Btw, China was already producing german MTU396 under liscence. The CHD620 is tested & validated to output same parameters as the german one.
