I personally know of several people in Karachi who have been taking enormous advantages of being PIA employees--benefits far beyond you'd see in America and benefits which even extend to extended family members and even after retirement.
I think the PPP has been very resistant to the privatization but being browbeaten--finally--to accept the change with just on year of grace period allowed.

It’s not a duplicate thread. It’s not general PIA updates but privatization. Which is a very important event broadly and being shown live on all channels. But you are the mod, go ahead and bury it.

Reference price / reserve price was Rs. 100 billion but the Arif Habib group bid Rs. 115 billion and Lucky Cement, the next highest bidder, have about 15 minutes left to up their own bid.

It can't be any worse! Basically, it was a political deadlock for decades mostly coming from the PPP which stuffed PIA with its 'Jiyalas' and then MQM also jumped in. You guys won't believe the waste and the expenses PIA does. I have personally known such people for FOUR DECADES!!

I am happy it wasn’t airblue (already shown bad performance) or Idara. We need a reversal of nationalization with strong local business groups emerging.

This is more than an auction for privatization. Not only the State of Pakistan has put the PPP on notice but others too. The populist disasters of Justice Chaudrhy in the mid 2000s caused huge economic losses due to Reko Diq and Pakistan Steel Mills. No more tolerance of them.
