Pakistan International Arlines (PIA) : News / Updates

Next should be Karachi, sell the city to a Private owner...
Pakistan too.
..and creation of pakistan was the biggest blunder of Urdu speaking Mohajirs. Everyone was dying for non-existent Muslim identity.
Pakistanis told the migrants, we will give you identity - 2nd rate citizen of 3rd rate country and will will take over all the industries you had set up and those you brought from India.
What afghan abdali and durrani did to India.

Politics. PPP is already threatening to use 'Unions' and also a legal challenge and target Mr. Arif Habib personally for corruption. The privatization works not only for efficiency's sake but also bypasses the political pressures which have hobbled PIA's privatization for decades.

This is one of the main reason its not worth buying PIA, a successful business needs no interference in order to build up a successful business empire. Credit to Habib Group for taking this risk. Maybe its better if Fauji Foundation also buys 25%. Like you mentioned what if by 2035 PIA is successful and earns billions but government and politicial start their meddling.

Well tell me about it!
Pakistani is a corrupt society.
And once Benazirs, Sharifs, Zardaris took over, they used PIA, steels mills for their evil racist politics.
Wapda also has corruption, but why PIA and steel mills were so ruthlessly destroyed? Because both represented Karachi and many from Karachi were employed in there till late 70s. Then racist quota system exploded and every connected son of the soil got a piece of pia.
Habib bank, united bank, MCB all formed by brilliant mohajirs, nationalized by Bhutto and then filled up with craps from all over Pakistan.
I realize, Karachi, and Karachi based financial, insurance, shipping, airline industries were destroyed systematically with evil motives.
Only Arabian sea and ports they could not take to other parts of Pakistan.

I can't say for sure this is exactly what happened but its highly possible in a society like Pakistan. In AJK people get jealous of the Pashtuns who work extra hard and stick together to make millions. Its possible some elites thought of Urdu speaking people as rivals and considered their successful businesses as rivals and wanted them destroyed. We all know safarishi give jobs to their own people and then afterwards get favours from them. Its same in AJK, baradari people give jobs to baradari and then they own your loyalty. But with this mentality you cannot compete with the world or build worldwide business network. Pakistan Steel Mills, Railways is the same.

I don't think the Habib Group has taken this enormous risk without 'guarantees' from the Establishment of Pakistan. But more to come, much more to come. The 26 and 27 Amendments as well as the upcoming 28th Amendment are the frameworks for drastic changes happening and more to happen. Essentially, the 'Danda' is coming up over all and the post Zia 1988 machinations of figleaf are being dismantled for a new order in Pakistan. And I welcome the changes! I have not hidden my preferences for what is happening and should happen going forward.

We all know Pakistan needs major changes and reforms. Pakistan Steel Mills and Pakistan Railways should be next on the list.

Plus the power generating companies DISCOs as @Bilal pointed out.
People in this forum have majorly undersestimated the changes happening and going to happen. These are way beyond pro or anti Imran.

Habib bank, UBL, MCB founded by Mohajirs. All nationalized and given away to rest of pakistan as tribute. Mohajirs setup shipping industries, colleges and universities, all gone.
DCET was founded by Seth Dawud, NED by a Parsi. 80% seats in DCET reserved for outside Karachi.
Even in welfare, no one did as urdu speaking Mohajirs did.
Edhi, Hakeem Saeed Hamdard trust, Dr Adeeb Rizvi SIUT Kidney and Urology diseases Hospital.
But as Pakistanis destroyed Pakistan so they did to Karachi based industries.
I now think, it was because of hate and jealousy against Urdu speaking Mohajirs.
Dr Abdul Qadeer was Muhajir and PIA financial planners were all mohajir ...founder of Pakistan was mohajir , man who financed Pakistani bank and owner of Orient airline/ later PIA was mohajir ...well the list is very long...and then came corruption... ..

Only and If IMF point out these department, right now IMF more worried about elite lavish life style and pension bills.

"They aren't purchasing the liability with pia. Tax payers will pay that. Out of the total bidding amount only 10% will be given to the government 90% will be spent on the PIA itself. Finally all the employee and retirement pension obligations are only for one year afterwards it can be given back to the government so they have to fulfill any severance or retirement obligations afterwards."

Then came sons of the soil.
Then came hate and jealousy why Mohajirs are that talented .
Then Bhutto came and gave all of that to Sindhis, Punjabi bureaucracy got its share, military got its.
Imagine, Pakistan three largest banks were headquartered in Karachi, shipping companies, insurance, financial. Karachi was the hub.
Then whole Pakistan joined hand to destroy it, lest Karachi could rival NYC, London, Frankfurt.

ISLAMABAD: Fauji Fertiliser Company (FFC) on Wednesday decided to join a consortium led by the Arif Habib Corporation Limited, which emerged as the winning bidder for the acquisition of a 75 per cent stake in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Tuesday.

Confirming the development, Arif Habib told Dawn that FFC had joined his consortium and that discussions were under way to finalise the terms and conditions of the partnership.

FFC was one of the four bidders for the acquisition of a 75pc stake in PIA, but it withdrew from the bidding process ahead of the submission and opening of bids.

Under the conditions, a bidder that withdraws has the right to join the winning consortium, subject to meeting the criteria set by the Privatisation Commission.

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Privatisation Muhammad Ali welcomed the move, saying it would strengthen the consortium both financially and in terms of management depth, expertise and global linkages.

“PIA will require a financially and operationally sound consortium if we want to make it a global leader in aviation.

“The participation of Fauji Fertiliser will help in achieving this ambition and is an encouraging development,” he said.

Earlier, during a press conference, Mr Ali described Fauji Fertiliser as a sound and strong group with management expertise and presence.

“If they join, the buyer group will be further strengthened,” he said.
