Pakistan International Arlines (PIA) : News / Updates

RS.135 Billion by Arif Habib, not Rs.10 billion.

Loot sale? How so? Please back it up.

The government is only getting 7.5% of those Rs 135 billion, which is approximately Rs 10 billion from Arif Habib. The Rest Will Be Invested In PIA, Pretty Much The Same Amount Blue World City Was Offering

Fauji Fertiliser Company joins winning consortium after PIA auction

The Newspaper's Staff Reporter
December 25, 2025

ISLAMABAD: Fauji Fertiliser Company (FFC) on Wednesday decided to join a consortium led by Arif Habib Corporation Limited, which emerged as the winning bidder for the acquisition of a 75 per cent stake in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Tuesday.

Confirming the development, Arif Habib told Dawn that FFC had joined his consortium and that discussions were under way to finalise the terms and conditions of the partnership.

FFC was one of the four bidders for the acquisition of a 75pc stake in PIA, but it withdrew from the bidding process ahead of the submission and opening of bids.

Under the conditions, a bidder that withdraws has the right to join the winning consortium, subject to meeting the criteria set by the Privatisation Commission.

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Privatisation Muhammad Ali welcomed the move, saying it would strengthen the consortium both financially and in terms of management depth, expertise and global linkages.

“PIA will require a financially and operationally sound consortium if we want to make it a global leader in aviation.

“The participation of Fauji Fertiliser will help in achieving this ambition and is an encouraging development,” he said.

Earlier, during a press conference, Mr Ali described Fauji Fertiliser as a sound and strong group with management expertise and presence.

“If they join, the buyer group will be further strengthened,” he said.

I personally won't be travelling in new owner airline , most like the new owner will sell 30 planes and make a nice juicy 9 billion Dollar profit

Nice juicy 9 Billion Dollar profit , this will get distributed into his partners most like some Army dictator General / Politician Tola will collect their money overseas after sale of 30 planes

Or one of their children will get 200 million deposited in their account as investor

You go to a small shop in Pakistan they sell item worth $50 for $150

And our Choor Fauj , Government and Judges , sell the 10 billion USD airline for 150 Million USD and claim

We did you a favor, people of Pakistan , you pay the debt , and we will collect the "PROFIT " from sale of planes

Right.
People could benefit from a short interview of Arif Habib on ARY's Wasim Badami yesterday about the true 'value' of the so-called PIA aircrafts.

Here is the ARY interview from yesterday. No businessman, especially not a Memon businessman from Karachi with a long history of proven successes, would put in even a dime into investing in PIA without good reasons.

Fauji Fertilizer Joins Arif Habib Consortium for PIA Takeover

This is the core reason why investment into Pakistan is soo low, it is because at evey point the Pakistani Army would need to have their hands greased for corruption and this is unavoidable. No one wants to deal with this when investing and this is why no one comes to Pakistan to invest. The "Fauji" turn up everywhere unfortunately.

unfortunately the airline is/was plagued by the corrupt and inept and incompetent people in the airline who were all hired on political grounds.
True professional people within the airline were/are sidelined so that people with connections and political connects were favoured........as a result, the airline reputation and standards suffered......

Out of 12 B777, only 7 are currently operational.
2 have been scrapped/written off due to intentional inflicted damage, just last month one of the 200LR AP-BGZ was structurally damaged. Now written off

They struggle keeping the whole fleet in the air and operational even after covid pandemic ended.
PIA Fleet Status:

Yes there is lots of potential but it really needs to be managed better for the people, as direct flights are better than transiting thru mid-east as it makes the journeys so much longer and exhausting.
Hopefully the airline can restart its lost services and grow its international network again and one day give good competition to the gulfies.

PIA has 78 registered routes worldwide........now you will see how Arif Habib and co make money.

If they make money, they will pay taxes on their profits back to the government, and that is a better deal then having to subsidize its losses which is what currently happens.

New update:
Habib Group has 90 days option to buy the rest of 25% shares in PIA. They will most likely exercise this option.
Fauji Fertiliser also has the option of buying shares. Habib Group has option of 2 more investors.

The best they can do is keep the "Fauji" out of it so they should exercise the option if they are "allowed to", otherwise they will be forced to take dullard generals and employ them and they are back to square 1 of having swapped one set of dullards(PPP/PMLN political appointees) for another set of dullards(PA Generals).

The 'Military Inc' is not as 'dullard' as this forum seems to think and having them even as minor players in the PIA deal is very good: There is an implicit guarantee of support from the real power brokers of Pakistan. Mr. Arif Habib is quite pleased with the Fauji foundation in the mix even if Mr. Habib will be the major stakeholders.
Let's discuss all this in December 2026 to some 'Before and After'.

They will never park profit in Pakistani bank. All money will be parked in foreign banks. Major enterprises sign contract and business accounts in European banks . If Arif Habib is front man of Fauji Fertilizer then its different story.
