China’s AI Chip Deficit: Why Huawei Can’t Catch Nvidia and US Export Controls Should Remain

What does backdoors mean here?
A similar incident occurred on September 17 with the explosion of telecommunications equipment in Lebanon, resulting in 39 deaths and about 3,000 injuries on the first day.

Some of the equipment involved originated from Taiwan and the Japanese company ICOM. Israeli intelligence agencies were accused of long-term planning through shell companies, embedding small amounts of explosives in the equipment batteries, and detonating them remotely. In November 2025, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu admitted responsibility, and a former Israeli agent revealed to the media the operational details of infiltrating the equipment through commercial channels.

Look like NVDIA is pricing the H200 very agressively...
Timeline given is shipping in mid-Feb.
None of this is confirmed.
Many things would need to go right for it to happen so let's see.
This price is definitely aggressive. Trump is asking for a 15% profit.

These articles tend to sound like strawman arguments. China is not trying to overtake the US in hightech chips, not yet anyway. Focus is to become independent even if that means for short term more cost and more power used. With volume they will generate similar compute for AI loads. In the meantime they will work on CANN and further innovate their hardware to improve it more.

US companies like Nvidia, Qualcom, Intel, texas instruments , AMD, Micron combined have a annual revenue around $80bn from China. Chinas aim is to turn that into zero in next few years. Once they have full self reliance and advance tools Nvidia could be in trouble thats if the AI bubble hasn't burst by then affecting them before China does.

Again the difference shown here is the forever ingrained China vs the Whole Horrible World mentality. No other country in the world is worthy of having chips other than China and if China doesn't need Nvidia chips due to self-reliance then the foreign world chip market collapses because nobody matters in this world for chip sales other than China.

Me..me...me...me..me..me..vs everybody else....everybody else....everybody else....

if China builds it's own OS...Microsoft collapses because "well their whole market is China"

if China goes 100% EV..OPEC collapses because "well their whole market is China"

if Huawei rebounds..the IPhone is doomed because "well their whole market is China"

What you ranting on about

China has the technical, industrial, economic, scientific base to become self reliant on semi conductors. They wont need any second or third party. This is why Mr Jensen is shouting wolf and lobbying trumpy 24-7.

Get use to the new reality instead of sounding like an insane person.

I think you are projecting as an American.

Nobody said that US is gonna collapse because China can make chip.

On the other hand, American kept saying China will collapse because of US sanction.

American is the one that think it is indispensible and threaten all countries by holding market access for extortion with tariff hike.

And using your control of technology as export control sabotage to China industrial production.

It is not China who initiate the Trade war, you started this, China is just responding to protect itself.

The rest of the world would benefit if China manage to make chip.

Nvidia suppliers halt H200 output after China blocks chip shipments

Parts makers concerned about whether Beijing will allow imports of AI processors

PublishedJAN 17 2026

Suppliers of parts for Nvidia’s H200 chips, which recently gained US approval for sale in China, have paused production after local customs officials blocked shipments of the AI processors.

Makers of essential H200 components, such as the printed circuit board, have paused manufacturing following moves to prevent chip shipments entering China, according to two people with knowledge of the matter.

A customs ban, if sustained, would be a blow to Nvidia. The company has heavily lobbied Washington and Beijing to allow sales of its H200 chips, an older generation of AI processors, in China. After US President Donald Trump indicated he would permit sales last month, Nvidia began stepping up production.

The company had expected more than 1mn orders from Chinese clients, according to the people with knowledge of the matter. Its suppliers had been working around the clock to prepare for deliveries initially planned for as early as March.

However, Chinese customs officials on Tuesday summoned logistics companies in Shenzhen to tell them they could not submit customs clearance applications for H200 chips, one of the people said, though it was unclear if the ban was temporary.

The person added Nvidia was caught by surprise by the customs authorities’ move, which occurred as early shipments of H200s arrived in Hong Kong this week.

The regulatory uncertainty led Nvidia’s parts suppliers to pause production this week to avoid incurring inventory write-offs, the people said.

This article is really funny.

Trump has approved Nvidia's export of H200 chips, but the Chinese government has banned Nvidia from selling H200 chips in China.

Doesn't the author know about this news yet?

Your own companies laugh loudly at your joke of a government.
Face it..what your government says is irrelevant.

Exclusive: ByteDance, Alibaba keen to order Nvidia H200 chips after Trump green light, sources say

Chinese companies cannot purchase American chips anymore because although the Chinese government has not explicitly prohibited their purchase, it requires companies that purchase American chips to sign a guarantee letter to ensure that imported chips have no backdoors.

No enterprise dares to sign such a guarantee letter, and importing chips with backdoors is illegal in China.

lol! Don't worry the Chinese government will 'suddenly' reverse itself once your tech companies start screaming

You need to understand one thing first.

There are no enterprises in China that can influence the government, and even most large enterprises are state-owned enterprises.

LOL! The three companies just did..and the Chinese Government reversed itself.

China informs Alibaba, others to prep for Nvidia H200 orders: report

Regulators have recently granted in-principle approval for Alibaba, Tencent (TCEHY) (TCTZF), and ByteDance (BDNCE) to move to the next stage of preparations for purchases, the report added, citing people with knowledge of the matter.

According to the news from China. The Chinese government only symbolically approved the import application for 50k H200 tablets.

As far as I know, Nvidia initially expected to export 2 million H200 units to the Chinese market at 2025, and they have accumulated a backlog of 700k units.

The symbolic approval of 50k by the Chinese government is just to let Trump deceive you MAGA.

Core usa technologies that usa had decades lead in now has evaporated to nothing as china will make euv chips by 2028. I guess usa got the white demographic collapse and social collapse to watch on TV everyday. Man I love how trump is pouring petrol on the fire of usa downfall.

Isn't this quite obvious? In 2024, these MAGAs are still cheering for Trump's chip ban on China. Now they are cheering for a symbolic order of only 50k.
