Venezuela - US Conflict: News, Updates

Spain offers to negotiate

The Spanish foreign ministry offered in a statement to negotiate and help find a peaceful solution in Venezuela.

It further called for de-escalation, moderation and respect for international law in the South American country.

‘Act of armed aggression’: Russia

Russia expressed deep concern over the development and condemned what it described as an “act of armed aggression” against Venezuela committed by the United States, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“In the current situation, it is important … to prevent further escalation and to focus on finding a way out of the situation through dialogue,” it said.

“We call for immediate clarification of this situation. Such actions, if they did indeed take place, constitute an unacceptable violation of the sovereignty of an independent state, respect for which is a key principle of international law,” the ministry said in a statement.

Papa Spain chimes in. It is after all a Spanish legacy.

He was handed over to the DEA, probably somewhere in the Caribbean, they do deploy with Tier 1 operators outside the US.
Probably landed the Chinooks on the carrier off the coast, took a C-2 greyhound to Trinidad and then a business jet to Miami.

Smells of the generals selling out.

Still early days. The defense minister that the US said had been killed is still alive and broadcasting. Rubio said that all further attacks on Venezuela had been stopped.

If there is still a functioning political system, all is not lost.

Always the same. I’d assume the US purchased intel and some stooges too.

Why has Madura not in some hidden inland military bunker?
Latin American leaders don’t seem to go down that way: seem to be easily found in their palaces.

Noreiga at least hide in the Vatican embassy for 10 days. Maduro didn’t plan for a way to stall things, before his capture was a fait accompli.

Even if he was in say the Colombian embassy for a while, he could have gone into exile in Russia.

Maduro indicted in New York on drugs and weapons charges - US attorney general

published at 12:32

We can now bring you some comments from US Attorney General Pam Bondi who says that Maduro and his wife have been indicted in the Southern District of New York.

Maduro, she says, has been charged with "Narco-Terrorism Conspiracy, Cocaine Importation Conspiracy, Possession of Machineguns and Destructive Devices, and Conspiracy to Possess Machineguns and Destructive Devices against the United States".

"They will soon face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts," Bondi adds but does not say what his wife has been charged with.

"A huge thank you to our brave military who conducted the incredible and highly successful mission to capture these two alleged international narco traffickers," she adds.

What a bunch of joke charges..

imagine if they present him at the presser
In Rome, during the victory parade, behind the chariot carrying the victor, would be the vanquished in chains or a cage (I recall exactly) to show the people of Rome the face of the leader of their defeated foe.

I don’t think even Trump would go this far.

Oh please do not give him any ideas!

South America is in the US zone of influence. An impressive military operation by your country 🇺🇸 . No doubting US global might.

People keep going on about US economic and military decline, but they clearly don’t understand the delta between the US and the rest of the so called great powers.

Pax Americana, sphere of influence indeed. The real test will be when Trump tries to push Chinese business interests out of Latin America; namely the Panama Canal and that large new port in Peru. China says it won’t budge. Perhaps China will trade them for US (and its vassals) standing down as China reunifies with Taiwan.

From a purely military point of view, very impressive op by the military, especially the 160th guys with their chinooks; in and out quick.
