Venezuela - US Conflict: News, Updates

This behavior completely deviates from China's political aesthetics, and the Chinese government will definitely not do such a thing to any sovereign country.
Dude, it's not the first time the Chinese Government kidnap dissendent from a sovereign country and has them on trial in China. It's literally the same thing Trump is doing to Maduro. Just that this Trump's Dissident is a Head of State...

Can we actually talk about how the Buk-M2E were toasted?

Well done Trump..... kick out these Chafevista rascals ......these guys have ruined the economy of once richest south American country...venzualens are paying the price for their bs .......Ah , sovereignty...... sovereignty doesn't come in charity.....btw , what is sovereignty ?.....A licence to kill her own people and destroy the social fabric and economy of the country ?

LOL. None of them do, actually. And neither does USA.

They ALL follow the same rules of international geopolitics, including what is happening right now, across the globe.
Let us exclude EU for the sake of argument.

China, Russia, Israel, Iran are not similar nations to USA in terms of their founding mandates.

You have learned about your own founding fathers no doubt, but we can review some of the key elements of early American polity if needed:

Thomas Jefferson: "Peace, commerce and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none".

George Washington warned against: "inveterate antipathies against particular nations, and passionate attachments for others".

John Quincy Adams when outlining refusal to be involved in Greek affairs:
"Wherever the standard of freedom and independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will her heart, her benedictions and her prayers be. But she goes not abroad in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own. She will recommend the general cause, by the countenance of her voice, and the benignant sympathy of her example.”

Other nations mentioned are happy to exploit or attack foreign countries, and declare as much at various points. Israel is an unashamed Jewish state that will raid sovereign nations deemed "antisemitic".

China and Iran will act in their interests in foreign nations.

Do I even need to illustrate Russian efforts to "preserve Russian-ness" in its neighbourhood?

I am, by the way, not passing any judgement over nations that cast their nets wide in their interests - I actually agree with adventurism to a degree - that's a moral relativism debate though for another day. The problem for USA is that she has lectured everyone else, starting with a stern lecture for the King George's expeditionary force of redcoats in the 1770s/80s, on the virtues of sovereignty, freedom, non-interference in the affairs of sovereign nation states...we could go on.

USA is the only true hypocrite in this list.

China and Iran will act in their interests in foreign nations.

And so will USA. There is no difference here, except may be in capabilities. ALL others would too, if only they could.

Founding mandates are just that, and no more.

No problem with any of that.

Address this though:

Address this though:

I have no need to address anything about which your mind is already made up.

The fact remains that USA plays by the exact same rules of international geopolitics as everyone else. There is no difference, except in capabilities.

Yes, naturally. You also have no need to address anything which is patently correct. That is your prerogative.

USA set the rules for a century. Now someone else wil and USA cannot complain, being the breaker of its own order.

What do we know about the operation?

The US military stormed Maduro's home at 02:01 local time (06:01 GMT). Trump said US forces were able to cut the power in the capital, Caracas, but it is unclear how they did this.

The US president said Maduro tried to enter a steel-fortified safe room and made it past the door, but was unable to close it.

Maduro was captured by the US army's Delta Force, the military's top counter-terrorism unit, after a CIA source in Venezuelan government helped the US track his location.

Trump added that no US forces were killed and there were "few" injuries. More than 150 aircraft were used to get the extraction team into the capital.

Maduro and his wife were taken on board the USS Iwo Jima and then a plane, which later landed at Stewart Air National Guard Base in New York state.

The pair were then transported to Metropolitan Detention Center, a federal facility in Brooklyn.

US officials have indicated that air strikes around Caracas were used as cover for the extraction operation.

BBC Verify has confirmed five locations that were targeted:

  • Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda Air Base, an airfield known as La Carlota
  • Fuerte Tiuna, a key military facility in Caracas
  • Port La Guaira, Caracas' main conduit to the Caribbean Sea
  • Higuerote Airport, just east of Caracas
  • Antenas El Volcan, a telecomms towers

Of course. No nation remains dominant forever. The rules of international geopolitics remain eternal, however.

What sovereignty would that be? Latin America has never been what I would call sovereign. Some level of corruption has existed throughout the LATAM countries for as long as I can remember.

Having corruption does not mean you are not sovereign. Just look at how corrupt both Congress and the Senate are in the USA, esp with regards to "donations".
