International terrorism taking place by the US

These were two separate events. Not spamming BTW, just reporting the relevant events. After all, it’s the Venezuela-US thread.

UK military supported US operation to seize tanker in Atlantic, MoD says

BBC

The UK Ministry of Defence says it supported US efforts to seize the Russian-flagged tanker in the North Atlantic today, including with RAF aircraft.

Here's a statement from UK Defence Secretary John Healey:

"Today our UK Armed Forces showed skill and professionalism in support of a successful U.S. interception of the vessel Bella 1 while on its way to Russia.

"This action formed part of global efforts to crack down on sanctions busting.

"This ship, with a nefarious history, is part of a Russian-Iranian axis of sanctions evasion which is fuelling terrorism, conflict, and misery from the Middle East to Ukraine.

"The UK will continue to step up our action against shadow fleet activity to protect our national security, our economy, and global stability – making Britain secure at home and strong abroad."

We are still in the first week of January. Shit is already hitting the fan globally. American led globalization is dying a slow death. Russia and America are trying to carve out their own spheres of influence.

Reminder of the days to come.

Blockade of Venezuelan oil 'in full effect', US defence secretary says

Pete Hegseth speaking at a microphone wearing a blue suit with Donald Trump behind him

Reuters

We have just heard from US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth on the seizure of the Venezuela-linked oil tankers.

In a post on X, Hegseth says: "The blockade of sanctioned and illicit Venezuelan oil remains in FULL EFFECT — anywhere in the world".

He later shared a similar message alongside a video of the US seizing a second tanker in the Caribbean sea.

US military says it seized second Venezuela-linked oil tanker in Caribbean

BBC

The US has seized a second oil tanker, this time in the Caribbean sea, according to the US Southern Command.

The vessel, a "stateless, sanctioned dark fleet motor tanker", was apprehended in a pre-dawn operation, the military adds.

"The interdicted vessel, M/T Sophia, was operating in international waters and conducting illicit activities in the Caribbean Sea," the US military says in a statement. "The US Coast Guard is escorting M/T Sophia to the US for final disposition."

Trump's appetite for unilateral military action undimmed

James Landale
BBC Diplomatic correspondent

This shows Donald Trump's appetite for unilateral military action remains undimmed.

This was proven beyond doubt with his military aggression against Venezuela, and he seems to want to reinforce that message by going after those tankers that he has sanctioned.

There are lots of questions we simply don't know the answer to, including what is being carried on the ship.

This operation demonstrates the US might like to do things alone, but it also needs allies.

It is only able to carry out operations like this because it has large military airbases outside the US from which it can mount these kind of operations.

Russia calls for 'humane and proper treatment' of citizens on Marinera

Vitaly Shevchenko
BBC Monitoring's Russia editor

Russia's foreign ministry has demanded that the US ensure "humane and proper treatment of Russian citizens aboard the Marinera", calling for their rights and interests to be observed.

It adds that the US must not hamper their soonest return to Russia.

This is piracy by US and U.K.!!! Russia could just as easily seize 1 US ship and 1 U.K. ship in response. They aren’t escorted at all times by destroyers.

The more i look into this operation the more i am convinced this was a “rescue” op more than a HVT capture. It just makes no sense to have soo many slow bulky and loud helicopters flying above Caracas without anyone shooting a stinger or air defence weapon system. It seems Maduro was kept hostage by Cuban security, and may have made a deal to get out with the americans. He is even smiling and raising two thumbs up when he landed in NY, wishing everyone a happy new year lol, even the DEA agents posed smiling with him.

Why is the US still referring to the Marinera tanker as the Bella 1?

by Kayleen Devlin
BBC

When US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced the US Coast Guard had boarded two vessels, she referred to the oil tankers as the Sophia and the Bella 1.

Bella 1, now renamed Marinera, was falsely flying the flag of Guyana last month, which made it stateless. The Russian transport ministry said earlier today that it granted the Marinera "temporary permission" to sail under the Russian flag on 24 December.

The vessel is currently listed in Russia’s maritime registry, with the port of registration recorded as Sochi, but does not state the start date. MarineTraffic showed the ship's flag status - which is manually entered by the crew - changed to Russia on 4 January.

So why has the US called the tanker the Bella 1 instead of its new name?

Experts told BBC Verify that under UN international maritime law, a stateless vessel can be boarded by authorities. A ship also cannot change its flag during a voyage unless there is a real transfer of ownership or change of registry.

Dimitris Ampatzidis, a maritime analyst at intelligence firm Kpler said that “if the transfer [to a new flag] is unclear, rushed, or inconsistent, the vessel risks being treated as improperly flagged or effectively ‘stateless’.”

The fact that the Marinera changed mid-voyage “implies they may not have done due dilligence”, Richard Meade from shipping firm Lloyd’s List added. "It’s generally accepted as best practice that if you are changing flags you will want to do inspections and administration.”

David Tannenbaum, director of intelligence firm Blackstone Compliance, told BBC Verify: “Russia appears to be testing the letter of this law by claiming the vessel has a change of registry, however the boarding of the Bella 1 shows the US has taken the position that this change is not legitimate."
