JF-17 - Updates, News & Discussion

Say what you want about Sidhu, but basically the guys seems to be acting like some travelling sales rep for PAC. Love it.

Big if on many of these deals, and they may not come off, but if they do looks like JF-17 may out do SU-30 and Rafale in terms of number of clients, and even possibly planes exported.....
Agreed! JF‑17 sales are skyrocketing, and hopefully all these deals materialize. Long‑term support would definitely make the coffers even fuller.

I remember reading on old forums that someone claimed the Air Chief gets a cut of PAF procurement deals. Is there any truth?

Actually every news about Pakistan selling jets is misleading …. It’s more like Pakistan/ China selling these planes so credit needs to be given to China . A lot of JF17 subsystems and avionics/ engines are made in China … infact almost 50 percent of plane parts come from China .

I believe without China’s help and support none of these deals can close .
Diplomatic muscle , supply chain and support from China will be essential to complete these deals .

And the issue of plane engines ?
Is it WS13 or RD93??

What about avionics ? With Azerbaijanis going for Turkish weapons package suddenly customers have a huge option of customizing and picking the package they want ……

So overall interesting to see what customers will pick and how they configure their planes . I have a feeling Bangladesh might pick Turkish package as they already have very close tires with Turkey .
There is NO Turkish package.

China (and Pakistan) will not give Turkey such access.

The JF-17C gives them the KLJ-7V2
I read somewhere the radar look ahead range is around 200km for 5m2 object, thats quite impressive for JF-17 for its size. What I am wondering is if it also makes sense for China to market a pairing AWACS to make the effective range of the PL15-E more deadly. The Swedish AWACS probably also is an option but likely a more expensive one.

The integrated systems, ground radars, AWACS will make the JF-17 with PL-15E very formidable even for other 4.5 gen aircraft. But maybe Sudan, Libya and others immediate needs is to deal with internal factions rather than neighbouring countries so A2G weaponry may be the focus.

i know Reuters source is sidhu himself , so they write more articles , but i cant prove it yet

I have a question for you with your airforce background ….

Why do fighter jets need to carry more than let’s say 4 missiles ….. they are always flying in a formation with other planes also carrying many missiles….

How often in history has any plane fired more than a pair at its opponent ?

People talk about planes carrying 8-10 missiles on F 15 or Rafale but I have never known any incident where they fired more than May be 2 ( Saudi F15 did in the first gulf war).

So shouldn’t we focus more on the fuel plane is carrying to hang around longer at the theatre instead of loading more missile causing weight increase and more drag ?
Good question... the 12 AMRAAM capability on F-15 is for different scenarios. In Indo-Pak battles, I will not like to have less than at least 4. E.g, there were 18 J-10C on front line against 72 IAF aircraft. With 4 PL-15 configuration, it makes 72 BVRs. With 2 each, it is only 36.

There were JF-17 and F-16 too to make total DCA of 42 aircraft, but the tip of spear was J-10. I will always want more BVR in such conditions because some missiles will also be trashed. The enemy will gain a clear advantage if I have no BVR after firing 2. So better to have some ammo in hand instead of carrying less.

PAF is suddenly in the business of integrated systems. We should quickly develop a product line. An in-house AWACS radar should become a priority soon.
