USA Weather Alert and Warnings Thread

I've been to Vancouver, BC. Nice city. Just too much rain.

So much to do and look at right at your doorstep. Beautiful part of the world.

I had lived for considerable time in late 90s and early 2000s in Vancouver. It was a lovely experience! Summer were the best you can have! But my Vancouver friends say it has turned really bad since then: Housing, druggies, homeless...

Compared to then, I'd imagine so. Housing is an issue across the country but Vancouver and Toronto have gotten a little too insane. Capitalistic greed and lack of foresight, eh...Vancouver's accommodating policies for drug abusers bring many there from far and wide, which then also feeds into homelessness. Yet, I wouldn't mind moving there at all. Brother loves it there, can't blame him.

Day six with no running water.

Went out to take care of some business, bought a pair of latex gloves for washing dishes in cold water.

Only Hwy 60 and 169 mostly clear. All other streets covered in packed ice and snow. Slowly roll past stop signs, do not want to come to a complete stop, and spinning tires.

Town's Emergency Management normally stop in at my truck stop early in the morning for coffee and two packs of cigarettes. Haven't seen him in over a week. I imagine him monitoring the situation from the comfort of his warm living room.

Courthouse behind me has been open for business all week. Have to keep the racket going.

While living in Vancouver, I made a good friend who was Pakistani-Canadian. He moved to Toronto area in mid 2000s and is regretting that: Too hot summer and too cold winter. He wants to move back to Vancouver asap. I don't blame him one bit!! I can't imagine immigrants flocking to the hellholes of Toronto or Dallas like climates!! $$$ is everything for most immigrants, it seems!
But to me, climate--all the four seasons without their extremes is extremely important as part of my very being!

Do you HAVE to turn off your faucets? Yesterday morning the temp outside my house was 11 F and I do have two garden faucets. They are just covered with faucet covers but we have hot water in the house and no overnight faucets let dripping inside the house.

Amen to that. I wanted to retire in Asheville NC, until it was washed away.

Ever hear the phrase, "the peaceful side of the Smoky Mountains"?

Lived in the area for a few years.

The Smoky Mountains will divert weather patterns south to North Carolina or right up I-75 to Knoxville.

Start with Maryville, TN.

Come! You'd be very close to me then! Beautiful city, nature abounds, and great climate in comparison with most of America except for southern coastal California.

Lots of good roads to ride and drive, excellent food, and 4 hours from just about anywhere. :)

Yes, I have seen bikers in groups in the hills zig zagging on various side roads and on the Blue Ridge Parkway. You could go to southern Canada climate in less than an hour from Asheville!!

I have been up and down that road too many times to count, as well as most others in the area, and then some. :D

LOL!

You haven't lived until you have been "rock crawling" up and down the Smokies.
