Really interesting, Indian TV did a show for Republic Day going inside Indian 209, Kilo and Scorpene. The bit showing the inside of the Kilo is shocking. Really old boat and very cramped.

A Kilo (Russian), 209 (German?) and a Scorpene (French) ? These Indians sure love to complicate their lives with multiple vendors for the same product.

10 Kilo class subs were inducted between 1987 and 2000
They are old and are on their way out with 4 having been retired
Same goes for U209
They were also inducted between 1988-1994
India is buying 6 U214 subs to partly replace these older subs
Rest will be replaced by a domestic design based on TOT received from The Germans and French subs

And Project 76 and Project 77. Frankly if we had an optimum AIP of our own we would be churning out diesel subs like cakes. It's a shame we can make nuclear attack and ballistic missile submarines but struggle with AIP-equipped diesel-electric subs.

Yeah
The idea is to build 6 domestic diesel aip subs
And another 6 nuclear attack subs

The engine noise of kilo is ridiculous. No way those subs can be deployed against Pak. Scorpene is better though still without AIP.
