Iran is a country with a functioning government that makes its own foreign policy choices. Good enough for me.

Its a unpopular revolutionary government that is disliked by its own masses for the mess they created in name of fighting Israel and US.

Whats good enough for you does not matter, you are not an Iranian or have to live with the fact that your country and countrymen have to face a hyper military super power and its allied armed to teeth middle power, both at same time, because 10-12 people at top decided to follow their "Principles".

I am a conservative American who is very much anti-Iran because its actions and rhetoric have destabilized the Middle East for 45 years, thereby necessitating far too much American involvement, costing us American lives and trillions of dollars of "treasure". However, I do believe that if Trump starts a war with Iran, he will lose millions of conservative Americans like me. We do not want to be the World's policeman, nor do we want to enable Israel to dominate and bully it's neighbors. If Trump attacks Iran, he will definitely lose the House of Representatives and there will be no JD Vance or other Republican successor in 2028. He might get away with a pin prick attack, but not something that precipitates a major conflict and destruction across many Middle Eastern nations. Because of Trump's huge bombast and bullying this past year, rather than concentrating on domestic problems, he is already on very thin ice with voters like me. An attack on Iran in the present circumstances is totally unjustified. If he does it, he will become a lame duck President. Unfortunately, a very dangerous one. VCheng is correct. We all need to survive the next 2-3 years and he will be gone. Pray for that.

I think Khamenei might order a preemptive strike on US Naval forces. This is his decision after Jamkaran mosque. Since war doesn't seem likely to be avoided due to Trump and Israeli belligerence, Iran might well "use it before they lose it" when they now have the perfect number of ASBMs and drones to saturate a carrier group with. Any move on US forces is fair game since Trump has killed Soleimani and ordered Midnight Hammer before, so now Iran has casus belli to respond first.

They'd not be motivated, nor have a sense of direction or feel for objectives... therefore could be persuaded for less.

We overrate the virtues of 'democracy': In the end, it is only half a dozen people or even just one person calling the shots on critical matters, in crunch situations, even if the leadership can be changed through the elections some years down the road.

Turkish authorities say they have dismantled an espionage network linked to Iran, arresting six people accused of gathering sensitive military information, with Cyprus emerging as part of the alleged operational planning.

According to Turkish newspaper Daily Sabah, the arrests followed a coordinated operation by Turkey’s National Intelligence Service (MIT), working alongside police units across five provinces. The suspects are accused of collecting classified military and security data and preparing possible attack scenarios, including surveillance of the Incirlik Air Base in southern Turkey.

What has raised eyebrows closer to home is an allegation that one member of the network was planning to move armed drones through Turkey to occupied Cyprus, and potentially onward to the Republic of Cyprus, using companies he owned as cover.

Turkish investigators say the network was allegedly directed by Iranian intelligence officials Najaf Rostami, known by the alias “Haji,” and Mahdi Yekeh Dehghan, known as “Doctor.” Rostami is said to have tasked a Turkish national based in eastern Van province with recruiting individuals to secretly photograph and film areas around the Incirlik base.

The investigation also reportedly uncovered the role of an Iranian national living in Ankara, who allegedly planned to transport armed drones under the guise of legitimate commercial drone activity. Authorities claim the transactions were presented as routine business deals in the unmanned aerial vehicle sector, masking their true purpose.

According to Turkish security sources, two of the suspects had received specialized drone training in Iran during the summer of 2025. Parts of the alleged logistics planning, they say, involved the movement of equipment connected to Cyprus.

The six suspects were arrested in raids centered in Istanbul and have been remanded in custody by court order. They face charges of obtaining state secrets for political or military espionage.

Investigators say the group relied on encrypted communications under the code name “Güvercin,” the Turkish word for “pigeon,” while funding was allegedly funneled through commercial transactions linked to unmanned systems.

The case comes as Turkey says its intelligence service significantly stepped up counter-espionage operations in 2025, carrying out hundreds of missions at home and abroad targeting spy networks, terrorist financing and cyber-related crimes.
