Colonel Abu Taher and his service in Pakistan Army’s SSG.

He was one of the fewest American RANGER qualified members of SSG.

Taher was wounded in 1965’s war.

Later in 1971, he defected from Pakistan Army ( 2 Cdo Bn) and joined to Bangladesh Liberation Army.

Bangladesh-US 9th Land Forces Talks (LFT)-2026 Successfully Concluded

Dhaka, 28 January 2026 (Wednesday): The two-day (26-27 January 2026) Bangladesh-US 9th Land Forces Talks (LFT) 2026 concluded successfully on 27 January 2026 at the Conference Room of the Army Sports Control Board in Dhaka Cantonment. The two-day meeting was conducted as a follow-up to the 9th Land Forces Talks (LFT) held in the United States from 8-10 September 2025. Representatives of the armies of both countries participated in the meeting and fruitful discussions were held on various important issues to enhance mutual cooperation. A 22-member delegation from Bangladesh participated in the discussions, led by Lt. Col. Mohammad Badrul Haque, SPP, AFWC, PSC, Engineers, of the Directorate of Military Training of the Bangladesh Army. On the other hand, the 4-member delegation participating from the United States was led by Major Michael Jacob Oster, Security Cooperation Division, United States Army Pacific Command (USARPAC). Brigadier General Md. Humayun Kabir, SUP (Bar), SPP, ndc, psc, MPhil, Director, Directorate of Military Training, was present at the opening and closing ceremonies.

During this discussion, both sides discussed at length various aspects of military cooperation, capacity building and strategic cooperation. The discussion emphasized on training exchange, increasing the ability to use advanced technology and military equipment between the two sides and mutual cooperation. In particular, organizing multiple joint training and exercises to increase military capacity and innovative training methods were discussed in detail. The representatives reiterated their interest in further strengthening the ongoing strategic cooperation between the armies of both countries. In addition, both sides agreed to make an important contribution to the regional security system and take effective steps to prepare jointly for natural and man-made disasters. The discussions focused on technical assistance and preparedness to address various global challenges, which will play an important role in maintaining regional peace and security in the future. It is worth noting that the 8th Bangladesh-US Land Forces Talks (LFT) was held earlier in October 2024.

No. Same old 7.62x39. if they really want CZ BREN 2, they should have gone with BR model and adapted NATO standard 7.62x51 rounds. Changes are not easy. But neccesary if you want capability upgrade.

I mean army is probably the most backward of all three services led by some old timers with no long term unified vision for capability development and procurement strategy. So they are after 4 refrabsihed Blackhawks from 1990s and ready to waste an hefty amount ($100 millions os something) just to ride them Blackhawks and feel prestigious or whatever, when we desperately need sizable numbers of MRSAM and long range firepower with a very insufficient budget available.

Im a supporter of standardizing lighter assault cartridge like 556 NATO caliber with hotter variant rounds like Japanese J3. BR cartridges are heavy, has higher recoil, efficacy drops significantly without expensive optics etc.

Most important advantage of Lighter AR rounds that every soldier can carry more rounds. So missing targets can be more forgiving logistically...
