I find it likely that they were part of this operation and were moving to their staging location for this.

These attacks are designed for them to be expendable like this. Their death was certain, they have ultimately achieved a majority of their objectives. They have been able to penetrate through security forces screens and stage themselves at tens of locations across the province. They have torched and destroyed multiple buildings. Propaganda wise they have made their presence on the ground felt. The reason they roam around like this is to ensure people see them, provide inspiration etc...
