PAF J-10CE News, Updates and Discussion

PAF has had 37 F-16s flying for a parade at one point.

And I myself have been part of and witnessed all 21 F-16s ready for two squadrons (not PAF) that I was attached to as a FTE some time ago. While there, saw US Marines launching all of their 14 AV-8Bs from their forward deployed squadron.

There are a lot things that maybe unheard of, but this isn't anything new.
I would also add a note over surge vs sustained availability of airframes.

Airframe availability sets the ceiling for how hard you can surge and how long you can sustain, since every extra sortie in a surge creates maintenance debt that reduces later availability and thus long term sortie capacity.

It does not need to - as in PAFs doctrine, targetting can be done off platform. The jets are basically "missile carriers".
Hi,

I am still alive & kicking---. So---please do not give me the credit---.

That was " my doctrine " posted on this forum about 10 to 15 years ago that the PAF adapted which actually came about from one his works of fiction by Dale Brown in the late 90's early 2000.

This isn’t true- PAF itself has always accepted that Link-16 is near real time and not realtime. It relies on far too many intermediaries to be able to be any good for offboard targeting. You go from an erieye, to a ground node, to the receiver.

others have also touched on this on the forum.

Thats Link 17 which needs a Ground based Translator for talking to Link 16, and vice versa .
Link 16 to Link 16 is realtime. However apart from the Block 52 F-16, and the Erieye, i dont know if the older F-16 even have Link 16.

@Oscar was it you who mentioned erieyes are not equipped with link 16?

All PAF data goes via GCS unless I’m remembering poorly.

But the argument still stands for offboard targeting. The capability does not exist

Any fighter jet wirh a fire control radar can target another aircraft without external support i guess ? Link 16 or no Link 16.

Yes, however the discussion is about offboard targeting

The MLU fleet does have Link 16 capability

AFAIK Project Horizon was to get Erieye to push data to Link-17 and then that onto ground station pushing it with crypto onto J series messages.

There is no evidence that the Erieye had a MIDS terminal installed but then keep in mind that Pakistan has always purchased EXTRA Terminals which people have assumed are spares for F-16s instead of thinking where else would the MIDS be installed.
