ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has found an alternative oil supply route as a $430 million US crude deal by the private sector has helped reduce reliance on the Hormuz route and narrow the trade gap.

In a notable private sector development with broader economic implications, Cnergyico Pk has executed a commercial transaction for the import of six million barrels of US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude valuing at around $430 million. The deal, one of the largest private sector crude oil import arrangements between Pakistan and the US, reflects a gradual shift towards diversified energy sourcing at a time of heightened geopolitical and balance-of-payments pressures.

The transaction expands energy trade between Pakistan and the US while contributing to a reduction in trade deficit through market-based private investment. Importantly, the deal has been concluded without sovereign guarantees or government financing, limiting exposure for the public exchequer and aligning with broader efforts to reduce reliance on state-backed external funding.

Pakistan and the United States (US) had discussed the establishment of a dedicated Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Centre in Pakistan for financial disputes, drawing on international best practices, an official release said on Thursday.

The development came as a delegation of the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) of the United States Department of Commerce visited the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) in Islamabad.

The CLDP works with emerging economies to strengthen policy, legal, and regulatory frameworks that support trade, investment, and commercial activity through targeted technical assistance and institutional capacity-building.

“Both sides discussed the establishment of a dedicated Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre in Pakistan, drawing on international best practices. These included the Financial Industry Disputes Resolution Centre (FIDReC) model of Singapore, an independent and impartial institution that resolves consumer financial disputes through structured mediation and adjudication mechanisms,” the SECP said.

Might as well ask US to release the AH-Z1's helicopters, we can use them to protect Baluchistan, cause after years we still haven't see 2-3 Z-10ME in PA service.

Pakistan key US partner in region, official tells Congress

WASHINGTON: The Trump administration’s point man for South and Central Asia has told Congress that Pakistan remains an important US partner in the region, with Washington seeking to expand trade, economic cooperation, and security ties with the country.

Addressing the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s Sub-committee on South and Central Asia on Wednesday, Assistant Secretary of State Paul Kapur underscored Pakistan’s role in regional engagement and highlighted growing bilateral cooperation.

“Pakistan is another important partner in the region. We are working together with Pakistan to realise the potential of its critical mineral resources, combining US government seed financing with private sector know-how would benefit both of our countries,” he told the sub-committee.

Referring to broader economic engagement, Kapur said: “Our trade in energy and agriculture is expanding as well.”

He also pointed to continued security cooperation between the two countries, adding: “And our ongoing counter-terrorism cooperation helps Pakistan combat internal security threats while addressing transnational dangers that can harm the US or our partners.”

During the subsequent question-and-answer session, lawmakers raised issues related to militancy, Pakistan’s past security strategy and broader regional dynamics.

Referring to Kapur’s academic work, a congressman noted that his book examined militancy and national security in Pakistan and asked whether militant groups based in South and Central Asia were operating in the United States.

Why bother when Pakistan has access to better options from China now without all the theatrics ?! People need to move on from the AH-1Zs now. It is questionable what value they have in era of drones now anyway, so adding a new type in broadly the same category adds no real value relative to the cost.

And Pakistan should stay focused on getting the promised F-16 upgrades: 70 fighter jets becoming very capable until 2040!!

How many Z-10ME have been delivered so far? if we put effort towards the AH-Z1 they can be delivered in no time, and PA has good experience with AH-Z's for decades. BLA/TTP attacks are getting more intense we need to chase terrorists in their caves and blast them, Z-10ME will come eventually but only god knows when.

F-16's are definitely important and many knowledgeable members have explained why, I am sure if USA even as a joke offer 18 new F-16V's to PAF, they will jump on it without a second thought.

The most important thing about the existing F-16 upgrades is that the upgrades would make those 70+ F-16s frontline/near front line against India's fighters, which they were not in the May 2025 encounter against India. And for a relatively paltry $700 million too!
