PTI news, updates and discussions part ll

Let me just say that I sought legal advice on the topic, and I am satisfied with my position as stated above. I always make it a point to get a visa and enter Pakistan, since the POC may expose the visitor to certain "issues", as this present case may also show. More details are needed about the person and their precise situation, of course.

Others can of course do as they wish.
Wow, you are correct! This is from U.S. State Department

  • If you travel to Pakistan on a NICOP or POC card, you will be considered a citizen of Pakistan. This may limit the amount of help and communication we can provide if you face arrest.

I am not sure many of the travelers know what they are getting into. Trading liberty (and life even) for paperwork convenience seems like a high price. Have these travelers not heard of Jamal Khashoggi?

Pakistan allows dual citizenship. So you don't give up your foreign citizenship or consular rights when you travel via POC or NICOP. They still ask for your passports at every airport in Pakistan and abroad even when you travel with NICOP.

That statement from State department says, "you don't give up", but they will not recognize it without a proper visa. That is what VCheng is alluding to.

Ye Banda thora ziada chorta hay, I can give him a pass though as they just have mentally destroyed him in custody.
He is a brave man who continues to live in Pakistan and speak out, knowing he can be sent back to the prison anytime.

Says it all:

If you travel to Pakistan on a NICOP or POC card, you will be considered a citizen of Pakistan.

Many a person has been caught unawares by this hidden gem of bureaucratic wisdom.
