To be, or not to be—that is the question for Trump.

Trump wants a short-term strike and an AW-type operation, but Iran's response is something else entirely. If, without a ground invasion, US armed forces' coffins arrive in the USA, then the whole country including MAGA would turn against him.

And that's a big 'if.' If he sends in ground troops, then it would become a mission that lasts a decade.

Trump is totally messed up this time
 
If Trump thought this was going to lead to a regime change, or increase pressure, hrs a fucking idiot.

Sure, the Iranian government is filled with morons, but they've been planning for this for decades.

Iranian government will survive, and its hard-core supporters will come out in the streets in support.

There will be no uprising. There will be no march to the Presidential Palace. There will be no toppling of the supreme leader moment.

Nothing less than a ground invasion is going to work, because air campaigns alone rarely work, and Trump is too much of a coward to order boots on the ground in any meaningful scale.

When was it ever not a launch base?
It is a complicating situation for Americans because they can't overtly use ground bases in the Middle East like they did in the 1990 and 2003 wars against Iraq and so Diego Garcia and the navy vessels are being forced to use.

It's not really about who drops what tonnage. It's all about who can survive and what is that threshold for either parties. Iran's only option is to cause maximum damage. The escalation ladder isn't like the previous Israeli Iranian war last year. Iran needs to ensure as many American assets in the region are damaged as quickly as possible with the hope that the regional Powers primarily the US seeks de-escalation.
