Because if Iran plays their cards correctly, and market open, it harms the global economy and trump would be blamed globally. Trump wants an offramp if Iran is going to harm oil and gas shipments out of the gulf.

trump is not popular and does not want that scenario.

Except trump is going to try to get inferior South American oil to replace gulf oil or have Russia flood the markets with Russian oil, so next war with Iran, closing the straits does not harm the global economy and Iran has zero cards.

The US waited for war with Iran until the fracking and oil domestically could be enough to keep the US operating if the SHTF during an Iran War.

This is American strategic thinking. Iran should not accept peace. It must accept US end of attacks, with Iran capable to respond when Iran wants to (the US stops their attacks, Iran can attack for years and years).
