On a serious note, this is as much about the US helping itself. If India doesn't buy Russian oil, it will be forced to compete against other buyers for the scarce barrels available and drive oil prices up even more. There was a reason that the West was okay with India and China buying Russian oil during the Biden admin and the first few months of Trump.
