India's access to crucial energy supplies received a temporary boost on Friday after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced a 30-day waiver allowing Indian refiners to purchase Russian oil.

The Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control issued a Russia-related licence "Authorizing the Delivery and Sale of Crude Oil and Petroleum Products of Russian Federation Origin Loaded on Vessels as of March 5, 2026 to India," the Treasury said in a statement.

All of this is just formality to sell domestically to MAGA. What waiver are they gonna give? Trade deal? That is null and void as per their own supreme court and trade between India-Russia is now in local currencies.

The point is, even if one drop of oil from Russia reaches India it's a win for us. What US promised was reducing oil imports to zero but failed. Now the middle east war is going to put pressure on Europe, they can't import oil from Russia but we will then sell refined petrol and diesel to Europe and make billions. You can jump hoops to find a reason to downplay this, like you always do lol!

The question lingers, why does Hindustan require a waiver from either Russia or USA in order to acquire resources from the other?

I thought Israel was the father, yet here we are choosing between Russian influence and American influence.

The balancing act has become an embarrassing act.

The government does not directly buy oil from any country. It only facilitates purchases for private companies, including government-owned companies.

If you understand sanctions, then you should also understand that private companies are not here to lose business.

India never said it would stop buying oil. Oil was already coming, and now with the waiver in place, it is a profitable opportunity for private companies.

Companies like Reliance Industries and others can buy as much oil as they can and refine it.

I hope you understand the sanctions because Pakistan is not buying the oil and gas from next door neighbour - Iran for 20 years.... Just because USA asked not to buy it, but India was yet buying it for next couple of years.

Believe me if it was india, and was having nebiouring country like iran - could have build pipeline a long ago and getting the continuous oil and gas, via ship only abandoned purchasing oil from Iran after may 2019, again private companies here for business and profit, not for unnecessary getting sanctions.

We're paying for it in rupees, and they invest that back into our bond/treasuries markets. So it isn't really affecting us much.
