Pakistan-Saudi Arabia mutual defense pact: News & Discussion

Speaking at a media briefing at the Foreign Office, Mr Dar said “The position in KSA is relatively stable.”

Hours earlier, he made similar remarks while speaking in the Senate.

ISLAMABAD: Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik confirmed that Saudi Arabia has pledged to support Pakistan’s energy needs by supplying oil through the Port of Yanbu on the Red Sea. The assurance comes at a time when global energy markets are grappling with the impact of the ongoing closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

In a meeting on Wednesday with Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki, Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Pakistan, the two leaders discussed a range of bilateral issues, focusing on strengthening cooperation between the two nations.
That's a very good news, if true.

Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir met with Saudi Defence Minister Khalid bin Salman Al Saud in Saudi Arabia on Saturday to discuss the ongoing Middle East conflict and Iran’s attacks on Saudi Arabia.

A statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued on Saturday said that the CDF visited the Kingdom and met with the defence minister.

The two “discussed the gravity of the security situation accruing from Iranian drone and missile attacks on the Kingdom”, as well as joint measures needed to halt them within the framework of the strategic mutual defence agreement signed by Pakistan and Saudi Arabia last year.

According to the statement, it was emphasised that unprovoked aggression undermined efforts for regional security and stability and foreclosed options for the peaceful settlement of disputes.

“Both sides expressed hope and desire that brotherly country Iran would manifest prudence and sagacity to avoid any miscalculation and strengthen the hands of friendly countries seeking peaceful settlement of the crisis,” the ISPR added.

Earlier, Al Saud had posted on social media platform X about the meeting. He urged Iran to “exercise wisdom and avoid miscalculation”, following repeated missile and drone launches at the kingdom.

After meeting with Pakistan’s military chief, the Saudi minister posted on X: “We discussed Iranian attacks on the Kingdom and the measures needed to halt them … We stressed that such actions undermine regional security and stability and expressed hope that the Iranian side will exercise wisdom and avoid miscalculation.”

The two countries have long shared a multifaceted relationship rooted in strategic military cooperation, mutual economic interests, and shared Islamic heritage. These ties have encompassed economic assistance and energy supplies, with Riyadh being a significant source of financial aid and oil for Islamabad.

On Tuesday, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar disclosed that Pakistan’s diplomatic intervention helped deter heavier Iranian strikes on Saudi Arabia, amid ongoing missile and drone barrages targeting United States military bases and allied facilities across the Gulf.

A day later, Pakistan formally requested that Saudi Arabia provide an alternative oil supply route through Yanbu to maintain its fuel supply chain in the wake of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz following the US-Israeli attack on Iran.

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Staff's Visit to Saudi Arabia and Its Positive Impacts

📌 Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held an extremely important meeting with the Minister of Defense, Prince Khalid bin Salman, during his visit to Saudi Arabia, in the context of the region's security situation.

📌 During this meeting, not only was strong concern expressed over the drone and missile attacks carried out by Iran on Saudi territory, but a reaffirmation was also made for the practical defense of Saudi territory under the framework of the Pakistan-Saudi Defense Agreement (SMDA) against this unprovoked action.

📌 Both leaders emphasized the need for brotherly Islamic country Iran to refrain from all such measures that could undermine the efforts for peace being made by friendly countries for the region's security.

📌 Immediately following this important meeting between Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and the Saudi Minister of Defense, Iran's statement of not targeting neighboring Islamic countries is being viewed as highly positive for establishing peace in the Middle East.

📌 According to international affairs experts, Pakistan's role, particularly that of the Field Marshal, in the efforts for peace in the region holds extraordinary importance.

📌 Throughout this entire conflict, Pakistan, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, maintained relations with all partners through a balanced and constructive foreign policy.

📌 According to analysts, in the backdrop of the recent statement by the Iranian President, Pakistan's ongoing diplomatic efforts have played a significant role.

Defence pact with Pakistan saved Saudia Arabia from wrath of Iran.

Remember SA host US bases which are used to attack Iran.

All these bases turned out to be useless and strategic blunder for host countries.

Or possibly saved Iran from having another front to worry about

The Saudi's got caught yesterday allowing USAF F35's over their airspace. They were lying to Iran.

So, did Pakistan help deliver a message also that they were not honoring their commitments and we are here for you, but what the hell are you doing ??

Will there also now with this talk, be an actual behavioral change from Saudi where they will "honor" the commitments that they made to Iran on now allowing their airspace to be used ?

Lets hope so, Iran and Saudi taking bites out of each other does not help Pakistan at all. Looks like we are engaged in active diplomcy here and maybe mediating.

I would not cry at all if Iran stops attacking Saudi and finishes off the Kuwaitis and Emiratis....

I am not sure what Kuwait has to piss off Iran so much( I dont have much historical context), they have the same bases as the other GCC. I am of the view that both Bahrain, Qatar, and UAE should be the ones getting attention. :)

Iran finds itself in hot waters in the present because of its own foreign policy decisions in the past, not due to the KSA. Prince Sultan Air Base is Saudi property. Iranian strikes there, and in other Saudi locations, do not deter the US nor help its cause. The regime is lashing out to no avail.

What stupidity to announce all this, scoring cheap points for himself while the war is ongoing! By all means, quietly engage in deflationary activities - that is your job and will bring reward in and of itself - but announcing it will draw unnecessary attention upon yourself and your government.

When will we learn to maintain OPERATIONAL SECRECY and CHANAKIYA as genuine weapons of informational warfare, instead of this Bollywoodised attention seeking culture that pervades our cranial matter.

With the upcoming events that are about to unfold in the Middle East and the coming Pakistan India war that will take place (most likely) at the same time; I don't think this agreement would amount to anything.
At best, our forces would protect Harmain when SHTF!
Like i said before,
Once Houthis are given the go ahead to invade Saudi Arabia; that will be the time when India will attack Pakistan.

Saudi foreign policy has been to participate in every American war and intrigue in the region going back at least 50 years. This includes participating in the Iran-Iraq war in 1980s by funding Saddam Hussein.

Saudis have again provided airspace, land, radar and logistical support for the latest American/Israeli war in the region, now on Iran. Additionally Saudis engaged in prewar chicanery, pretending to be publicly against the attack while privately lobbying for it.

The fact that Iran is only attacking American assets in Saudi Arabia, means the Saudis are getting off easy once again. But it should be clear that Saudi Arabia is no innocent party, none of the GCC are.

I am more concerned about the idiotic defense pact which Pakistan rushed to sign with the Saudi snakes, because of which it will now be pulled into this war.
