that is twice as much as was released after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, but it will not even be enough to replace the lost supply by the end of March

even after this extreme news, oil is still $100-$105 (up from $90 last Friday)
the US cannot in practical terms release oil quickly enough to offset the oil loss, so the impact of this is very limited

The math: 9 million barrels per day offline. US SPR max release rate: 4.4mb/d theoretical, 1.2mb/d historically achieved. A 300-400 million barrel release takes 68+ days to fully deploy.
