Pakistan-Saudi Arabia mutual defense pact: News & Discussion

Pakistan could send a squadron of J17s to defend the Saudi Capital from drones ? Symbolic and meaningful and non confrontational ?
That would mean taking on Iran in these crucial times. Instead Pakistan should try mediating between them. If it were israeli drones targeting KSA, I'd be happy if all our airforce went for defense of KSA.

As war in Middle East escalates, PM Shehbaz departs on brief visit to Saudi Arabia

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday departed on a brief official visit to Saudi Arabia as the ongoing conflict in the Middle East saw no significant signs of de-escalation, his office said.

The prime minister’s visit comes amid intense hostilities in the Middle East, where Gulf countries — including Saudi Arabia — are facing Iranian attacks, which Tehran says are aimed at US and Israeli sites in response to the latter’s deadly large-scale strikes.

The premier is undertaking the visit at the invitation of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.

iran went overboard, hitting civilian targets in neighborhood in retaliation, holding the world hostage in Hormoz, flexing too much to the sheikhs and very little damage to the actual culprits. People like to sympathize but nobody likes to be bullied and held hostage, iranians had the world's sympathy.

There are some very clear lessons to be learnt about iran especially for Pakistan as their neighbors.

They also funded extremist madrasas let’s not forget that either.
Do you remember the history of the proxy wars of 1980s and 1990s? Did you have selective amnesia about what Iran did with Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Fiqh-e-Jafaria in Pakistan?

I don't want to provide useless history lessons. Besides after today's meeting in KSA, things will become more fluid. So we need to be careful as a nation going forward.

Anyway.

Pakistans involvement here is anything would probably be the deployment of F-16’s for counter drone work.

This is a good thing though, shows that Pak is able to commit them to coalitions, the Saudis would probably also want us to be able to commit to them and inter operate, creating the pathway to Vipers, possibly even funded in part by the Saudis?

I am not taking sides my friend, I am saying that Pakistan and Pakistanis need to get out the habit of framing partnerships as “friends”, no one is our “friend”, every country takes steps for their strategic benefit alone.
Because I am tired of reading biased views again and again. If you blame one party support why ignore the other? Unless you are taking sides.

This! 100% this. We need to be very careful about looking at the situation with objectivity and not rose-tinted glasses.

Few missile strikes and drones are providing an opportunity to reverse the indian gains in the Arab world, then we should grab this and fully capitalize on it in a very wise way. The world would still run on oil tomorrow.

Iranian regime will remain heavily sanctioned and may be more restricted in future, doesn't harm us and indians have themselves made sure that iran looks at them unfavorably in future.

yes. it is in our strategic benefit to send a detachment to the KSA.
