The apology matters much more than just its effect on the war as you mention.

Owning up to mistakes and trying to rectify them is part of the US national psyche and not doing so will leave a stain on it that will not go away.

Well Iran can really drag this out if they wanted to - they just have to move the nuclear material (if they have it) to Pickaxe and hold out and hope for the best. No way a small Infil team is going to retrieve them - each cannister weighs 1 ton or more.

Yes, I know about the other toys that the US have that fulfil these roles. I was more interested in the inventory of the KC135 currently forward deployed / in theater vs overall inventory numbers.
