63-8017 landed in Israel with part of the tail sheared off, is a KC-135R operated by the 314th Refueling Squadron of the US Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) from Beale Field, in California.

Those 2 aircraft were NOT boom received, which means whatever the reason they crashed, it CANNOT be from them refuelling from each other, which is why said rumor, of them being attacked by Iraq, spawned.

NOW this is VERY IMPORTANT, THIS IS A RUMOR, TAKE IT AS YOU MAY, but don't come to me and say "hey, your stupid rumor is wrong because KC-135 can refuel each other and then show me a picture that was not showing a KC-135 refuelling another KC-135."

We seem to see more refuellers now operating over Saudi Arabia than over Iraq, is this because the airspace has become contested/at threat ?

It can be, I don't know much about airspace restriction, but I would imagine that if it was because of two aircraft crashing into each other, they won't move their Area of Operation

It appears that the airspace over Badghad is closed, the closest Refueller operating in the area is now in Saudi airspace (YETI11 is a KC-46A)

It would be weird if they close the airspace or not using them because of the crash, don't you think?

This is how they always won wars, behind the scenes they get aid, resupply, war winning weaponary from the Usa, and if they ever get stuck papa comes to the rescue.

If the Saudi's can be forced to "honour" their commitment of not allowing the USA/Israel use of their airspace for operations against Iran, then the the whole operation will come down to a crawl if Iraqi airspace is not considered fully "friendly".
 
I think the biggest mistake Iran made in the last 10 years is not building a modernized version of S200 in large numbers.

After all, you can see tens of tankers flying along Iraqi border. While you might not be able to target IAF and UsAF fighter jets, you can hit the Empire at its soft underbelly which is the defenseless tankers.

2-3 tankers shot down from the Iranian coastline would force US to withdraw tankers further away closer to Jordan or Red Sea and straining enemy’s battle plans

Iran is delivering like hell where no other country would even dare. We cannot stress this too much.
