Iranian Air Force (IRIAF/IRGC-ASF) | News and Discussions

Do you consider the PAF to be a Modern air force? How do you think the PAF would fair going up against the USAF?
PAF won't be able to win against USAF because of the huge numbers and how technologically advance the USAF is. Not to mention PAF flies American built F-16s and is dependent on F-16 parts from the US.

Saying that however, if push comes to shove, Pakistan/PAF would not shy away from confronting USAF, but it won't be able to dominate the USAF.

The PAF with the integration of the Chinese navigation/reconnaissance system could still deal some significant damage to the USAF.

Considering that they managed to shoot down multiple Indian Rafale jets with ease.

So the USAF could get weakened as well as the 200 km PL-15 is very unescapable for most US aircrafts.

It appears F-14’s were hit. Whether they were non working or not remains to be seen. Suprised Iran didn’t attempt to use them to their final days.

We're these even real aircrafts ???

It will be very interesting what Iran will do. Will India threaten/ask the Iranian warship to leave India (to their certain death) if Iran does not relent and let their ships through ?

It won't be much of a blockade if every asks for, and gets an exemption granted!

I brought up the AIM-174 because you brought up PL-15 with its 200km range. I never said anything about F-22/F-35!
Dude, that kind of comparison isn't appropriate.

The AIM-174B is a "large-format" missile. It is designed primarily to engage large and medium-sized specialized military aircraft targets—such as AEW&C platforms and transport aircraft. The AIM-174B itself is massive and quite unwieldy; given its limited aerial maneuverability and speed, it is ill-suited for attacking targets such as fighter jets. This stands in stark contrast to the operational role of the PL-15 air-to-air missile; instead, its positioning is more closely aligned with that of China's PL-17.

Within the U.S. military system, the program designated to counter the PL-15 air-to-air missile is the "AIM-260 JATM"—not the AIM-174B.

Btw, these missiles are currently unrelated to Iran, so it is not appropriate to discuss them in this thread.

Yes I think it is a version of the SM2/6 family of SAM naval systems. So the high range it is because of its massive size.
By the way, it was IRIAF the one that took a Hawk SAM system and fitted into a F14 and after years US did it the same.
