If the pilot has shrapnel damage, then you have to assume that structural components and systems of the platform may have shrapnel damage as well. The bulkhead may also have some damaged given how close that is to the pilot and to the point of impacct. At which point do you decide to try and take apart the platform to replace structural components with the costs involved, versus saying this is now a spare parts hulk for components and systems that were not damanged.

Just because something landed (and in this case, it is being reported that it "landed hard") does not mean it is repairable, it may well become a hulk for spare parts.

We don't have pictures of the platform so all this is speculation at this point.

Your future buyers who believed the US 5th generation fleet to be invincible, if a country like Iran with virtually non-existent air defense can bring it down, imagine what China can do. Japan and South Korea will be a lot more nervous now, as would Europe.

Patrick Henningsen even talked about a likely global energy scenario as a result of this war if the Americans win: Basically controlling several major energy routes/ sources where America would be able to dictate terms on 'extortionist' prices.

You can’t “fly higher” when you are expending your most valuable stand off munitions that have long production times.

Within a week or two you will have to resort more and more to normal bombs and JDAMs, which will require fighter jets to get closer and lower (relative to standoff not lower like hugging the ground).

I'm quite sure JDAMS (GPS guided) don't work better at lower altitudes. i think you mean laser guide GBUs

Also I doubt they even train much for low level bomb dropping as dumb bombs in fighter jets is mostly a thing of the past handled by maybe A-10s.

Even that supposed footage of F-18 strafing seemed odd as they have like only 5 seconds of ammo so swooping down low enough to take a potshot at something seems a little weird.
