Self destruction, baiting attacks at various ballistic trajectories is a common tactics deployed to learn about a rather unique target's AD/ABM layers. They did a similar one off baiting/scooping attack at NATO bases in Turkey with a rudimentary missile then went silent about it.

So we dont know if interception was real or not. We are fighting the most modern tech war ever, every side deceives.
