US Defence related thread

The US is a net petroleum exporter and the closure of the Strait has minimal impact on the US economy relative to the globe. Sure, higher air/gas prices, some inflation pressure etc…but it’s a minimal cost overall
As I said, congratulations.

Later, when I have a bit of time, I'll put together a simple primer on how a basic supply chain works. And will give some examples how the conflict is indeed affecting the US consumer more than you want to believe.

Sure, you’re more than welcome to do that. Just as I can post Q1 ‘26 GDP growth figures when those numbers are released.

The latest gdpnow estimates are 2% growth for Q1.

The Iranian regime should consider itself fortunate the US military didn’t deploy 500,000 troops the way it did in Desert Storm.

Remember, the US is carrying out these operations with 50K personnel, 200 fighters, 25-30 bombers, 1-2 carrier groups with 15 or so destroyers.

No, this war has had no effect on the American economy outside of paying an extra $20 at the gas station. Thats minuscule cost relative to the annihilation the Iranian regime, military, economy, and industrial facilities has received.

Iran is in no position to demand anything. Iran is now weaker than it’s ever been.

The global economy is interconnected, and no nation lives in isolation. A depression in the global economy WILL CAUSE a depression in the US economy.

The US intelligence community assesses Irans strategic position as “significantly degraded.”

As I stated above, Iran is in no position to make any demands. From a political standpoint, the US position has only strengthened since the start of operations.

The IC are now acting the same as Baghdad Bob was during the Iraq war of ever promising victory and no issues anywhere until it all the parallel universe collapsed in the last week.

The USA is on the verge of being evicted from the Middle East as the bases that were meant to "protect" the Gulf States, turned out to be there to only protect Israel and not them.

Things will change in the Middle East, and not for the better for the USA.

You aren't even aware that GDP is a lagging indicator.

Sad.

That’s your opinion(a wrong one) but you’re entitled to it. Meanwhile US growth keeps chugging along with the latest gdpnow estimates at 2% for Q1, and for a $30.8T economy that’s significant.

The US defeated Saddam and Iraq in 3 weeks. The problem is we decided to dismantle the Baathist’s, AQ and other militias moved in, then decided to nation build Iraq.

We’re not looking to nation build Iran

Also in relation to the ME and Gulf at large, the Iranians have essentially crucified themselves by attacking nearly all its neighbors. Any relations there were between the Gulf and Iranians is effectively over

I expect US relations to strengthen significantly with Gulf nations in the coming years , especially from a security standpoint and we’re seeing signs of that especially from the UAE.

Israel’s strategic position has strengthened significantly with Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas so heavily degraded. Obviously US/Israel are closely aligned.

Good idea that we don't attempt to nation build Iran. We failed horribly with Iraq and Afghanistan.

In the end, Iraq has turned into a decent victory for the US. Not total strategic victory since Iranian militias do operate from their territory, but their government is stable enough. It was a disaster in the 2000s with AQ and 2010s with ISIS. Thankfully we defeated both groups.

Afghanistan is a total clusterf***. There’s not a nation on the planet that can build that country.
