CAMM ER has a range 45+ but how much + are we talking I have seen some sources claiming the range extends out to 65km @JamD

Even with the SMASH it will be difficult , The main motive was probably that IN vessels lack ABM on its ships so which would create the fear of losing a ship or getting hit from a smaller enemy and wont bring them closer to our areas thus enabling A2AD . Or maybe just to give PN a good system so they dont get depressed over the thought of having only old harpoons and exocets.
It's range is only 350km compared to 500km of Brahmos

Thai Naresuan class frigate a version of the Type 53 class frigate same as the F-22P, it has 8 cell MK41 with 32 ESSMs

IMO a good bases for a Future Zulfiqar class MLU, A 8 cell MIDLAS quadpacked with 32 CAMM ER missiles (if MIDLAS gets certified for the CAMM ER) if not then just 16 cell GWS 36.
Armed with 4-6 SMASH/P282 missiles
The Radar should be replaced by the CENK S

if a MLU like this happens it will be among our most potents vessels

the cost would probably be $70 Mil per ship with out the MIDLAS and probably $90 mill+ with the MIDLAS.

it cost the Thai's $100 mil in total to upgrade both of its ships but that was back in 2011.
That would just be stupid to do on decades old Ships , it should be done on the ships after the Jinnah class , zulfiqars should stay as is and continue being the test bed for SMASH & P282

Zulfiqar class isn't even 2 decades old the newest one is barely a decade old

also AFAIK PN has no plans for new surface ships beyond the JCF.

Z class is already the test bed for the SMASH so I don't know what your point is there.

I am not alone on this one PN has done serious studies on a upgrade for the Zulfiqar class which will certainly include the CAMM ER so I don't think it's a question of if it will happen but when.

PN did request MBDA to run a feasibility study to see whether CAMM-ER could be retrofitted (it can)

nobody knows but janes claimed baseline camm hit a target at 60km. Obviously we dont know what said target is, could have been a plastic balloon

a hull is a hull, so long as its safe, its just a floating platform. Put whatever in it, things can be re used post retirement etc

IMO MLU of that level shouldnt be done on ships which were siad to have probelms with its navigation , its an outdated design an probably would be a waste of resources .
In my previous comment i have sad that they should remain as the test bed of Smash like now.
PN upgrading z-class to this extent wont come any time soon , even if it mostly it mostly will be to upgrade the HQ 7 with a newer chinese AD system rather then changing to a way expensive Camm.
Should allocate those funds to jinnah class

Brahmos 800km is in the works, will likely be operational by 2027-28.

Lr Ashm will take longer. (1500km)
and how does the LRASHM compare in cost per unit? LRASHM is big and expensive projectile so dont expect it being in large numbers.

@Ak01 If somehow PN inducts a camm er battery...how would it be included in the AD grid? Wouldnt it create problems? PAF already operates a HQ9 from Karachi , and seeing PN having No prior experience with High caliber SAMs then how will it manage?
Who will teach doctrines and other stuff to PN? an explanation would be good...

Lr ashm is still under the testing phase so can't comment on it's price but it will be costlier than Brahmos.

Also given its size it would need specialised VLS and less quantity per ship.

Brahmos will be the mainstay of IN in the 2030s. Some other projects are underway but it will take a while.
