Respectfully, for me it does not matter if they came inside 40 KM or 200KM, we know Iranian capabilities.

Concerning part is, Iran had 40 plus hours to prepare an ambush. We knew the area of lets say 5 to 20/50KM will be a target for rescure op, let them come and do the necessry.
One Pilot was rescued, and whole world knew hunt for second one is on, beeing a missile country setting ambush on barren land of even 100KM radius should not have been a problem.

If the WILL to kill invading terrorists on your own land was there.

on the other side for USA, no matter what and how high the cost and loss of assets was, this was a RESCUE Operation behind enemy lines and they were successful.
Mission accomplished.

It was easier than implementing the same operation in suburban area with anticipating ambush. We have to respect they went back to rescue their downed people.

There is no chance for a deal because this bird brain administration keeps offering terrible concessions in exchange for major Iranian overtures. Any other non-Mossad controlled U.S. president would be negotiating much more realistically like Obama or Reagan did.

While this administration is not a bunch of geniuses, I do not think any other administration could have struck a deal at this moment in conflict. No way U.S. can accept Iran with nuke/missiles/drones + control over Hormuz and Iran can't climb down from that as it means defeat. So, the war will continue till attrition. Things might change after next week if Trump goes ahead with his plans
