That seems so stupid, why would they even bother? I don't get the strategic value of attacking railways, they are very easy and cheap to repair, they can have them back up and running in a week at relatively little cost.

They are hitting railway bridges too. And they are doing that to stop large troop movements in Iran. It's a prelude to a ground invasion.

Iranian messaging is not clear and the leadership irresolute, uncertain. They came to power to appease a rational west they thought they could work with... one that worked within parameters and letter of the law.
Worse yet... they have been burned multiple times! At least four major times and multiple other times by the same orange clown. Who scraped JCPOA, killed Soleimani, sucker punched first set of negotiations and did that again the second time.
What is it that Iranians do not understand?
What is it that keeps them going back to burn on the same fire?
What makes them think that it will be different the next time around?
Except that they work to achieve peace in the neighborhood by removing the scrooge.

In this regard, the Iranians have a certain similarity with the Russians.

Both of them are in a clash with the west out of compulsion. Given then choice, both would like to be in good terms with the west instead if collision. The sanctions were just facade. China and Russia couldn't openly act against the NPT and openly support a Korean nuke, so they voted for sanctions.



Over the years, I have read extensively about the topic of nukes....it would be way too time consuming now to talk about it, so very short:

Even before the establishment of the NPT, but especially after the NPT every country that got a nuke only got it because they had the support of at least one major nuke country.

But even Russia and China are against an Iranian nuke, and that is also the reason for Khameneis fatwa: not because he really believed that nukes are Haram, but because he knew nobody would accept an Iranian nuke.

And if theoratically tomorrow Iran would test a nuke, then only because Russia and/or China somehow changed their mind....but as long as that does not happen, Iran will NEVER have a nuke....accept it!

Maybe you're right, but IMO It is a mistake.

The only way Israel and US would accept a neighbor military power aligned with Russia and China is the nuclear weapon.

Also from a factual point of view, why Irán always had the will to keep enrichment capability??. It is something that is contradicting this determinist point of view.

This is going to the brink, but that is what very high level negotiations are like, both US and Iran know this is not worth the price now.

My guess is a very last minute deal.

The alternative is too horrific to imagine, and the thought of Saudi and PAF jets bombing Iran along with US and Israel truly sickens me to the pit of my stomach

You’re missing the point. “Another punch” doesn’t always mean military revenge. Japan and Germany are actually perfect examples of why survival matters more than destruction. Both were completely defeated, yet today they are amng the world’s largest economies, technologically advanced, and globally influential. They didn’t need to fire another shot at the US to regain power and dignity.

Power is not just military. It is economic strength, technological capability, global influence, and internal stability. By staying alive and rebuilding, they positioned themselves as major players again. If they had chosen total destruction over survival, they would not exist in any meaningful way today.

The point is simple: if a state destroys itself in the name of resistance, it loses every future option. Survival preserves leverage. Dead states don’t resist, rebuild, or influence anything.
