Pakistan-Saudi Arabia mutual defense pact: News & Discussion

Why do you use the word "help"?

I provide you with security; you pay me in return. I use that payment to acquire better weapons and equipment, which then allows me to provide you with even better security. This is a normal, legitimate form of cooperation. We do not need to use the word "help" to describe it.

It's just a joke—don't take it too seriously! ;)

Michael, this may seem too emotional and may be illogical to you (because it is). But even if KSA refuse to pay us, even if it refuse to finance our defence purchases, even if it give us silent treatment in term of relations and diplomacy, we are still bound to ensure security if KSA (atleast some part of it ) . Defence pact or no defence pact, we need to be there. Our religion demands that from us.

So yes, help would be the most appropriate word. I am not an emotional person. But there are some things that only need you to be emotional about. Harmain and Madina (2 prominent cities and almost all the region between them) is the same for us. Ask any Pakistani and he will tell you the same . ...

We are taking about this 60,000 - 80,000 square km area.

My take on this is, it's symbolic maneuvering by Saudis and us against Iran. Iran would be careful to launch at a location where there are Pakistani troops (especially since we have nothing to do with attacks on them). But that only works if we are willing to walk the talk if push comes to shove.

Or maybe I am reading too much and they really do need us to shoot down drones? Iran doesn't have much of an airforce to mount an offensive, and I don't have an idea what our air-launched ABM capabilities are.

Let me share my viewpoint.

First, the composition of the formation. I think the formation should include at least one to two early warning aircraft, one electronic jammer, one tanker, and at least two JF-17s equipped with electronic warfare pods. The remaining aircraft could be F-16s and JF-17s responsible for air-to-air missions. This is a basic systematic combat formation.

Second, the nature of the event. The Pakistani military entered Saudi Arabia to carry out the mission according to the 'Pakistan-Saudi Joint Strategic Defense Treaty' signed on September 17, 2025. I believe the main purpose of this force is to provide deterrence capability. The United States has lost the ability to provide security protection to Saudi Arabia, and Saudi Arabia's security needs to be ensured. By activating the joint defense treaty, Saudi Arabia is sending a message to other countries (mainly targeting Israel, the United States, and Iran) that Pakistan has officially entered the Middle East.

The United States and Iran are in negotiations. The United States has been hoping that the Gulf countries would support or participate in aggression against Iran. Saudi Arabia is the leading Gulf country, and its opinion is very important. By activating the joint defense treaty, Saudi Arabia is making a statement that it will not take action to support the Epstein Alliance in attacking Iran. Saudi Arabia now has sufficient defensive capability, and if negotiations fail, it will adopt an active defense strategy and will not participate in the war.

When the United States realizes it has lost Saudi support, it lacks enough leverage in the negotiations. This is beneficial for the current peace talks and can increase the likelihood of stopping the war.

Third, the mission objectives. Pakistan is hosting peace talks between the United States and Iran, which means Pakistan must take a neutral position as a fair arbitrator. Therefore, the Pakistani military will not initiate attacks against these two countries. I believe this force has two main tasks. The first is to respond to Saudi Arabia's security needs (I believe Saudi Arabia has repeatedly wanted to activate the joint defense agreement). The second is that if negotiations fail, the Pakistani military will protect Saudi Arabia's security, intercepting rockets or drones attacking Saudi Arabia and safeguarding Saudi airspace.

This will create gaps and vulnerabilities in Pak defenses... we dont have enough assets to counter India specially ground based AD systems. Hopefully saudis will make sure those gaps are plugged if and when necessary

That was/is my thought as PAF is "finely" tuned for the bare minimum Pakistan needs to defend itself from India.

We did get some news of more new JF17C's heading PAF's way, so it may be a JF17C deployment with backfills already accounted for and done ? ( just a thought ).

sir thats why we need more bases to cover larger area . may be pfx with more range can help on it.

We can easily manufacture more JF-17 , but we can not manufacture J-10C. So to convince KSA to buy us more J-10C, you need to pitch them J-10C , not JF-17.

Also, J-10C seems to do the job more effectively so why not ?

And please, don't Sir me, nobody even likes me here. 🙂

We now have F15, EF and Tornedos to counter India too. Its a great news. At least we get some support on the eve of War

may be we want to pitch pfx for ksa investment with local production? win win for ksa pakistan and china

We don't need to pressure Iran; we also have no intention of pushing Iran into an unjust agreement after they were attacked so brutally in an illegal act of war

We are reassuring our Saudi allies, as this alliance is important going forward.

But all Middle Eastern countries will need to come together to make common agreements against the enemies outside.
We were going to do this move anyway after last year's pact with the Saudis. But why did we choose this moment? For multiple reasons, and sending messages to multiple countries.
1. First and foremost, to Saudi Arabia. Yes, we are helping Iran, but our main goal is to make sure peace is restored in the region; we are not doing this to allow Iran to become the new sheriff in town.
2. Also, the message to Iran is to start talking seriously, and please don't push us to the extent that we have to help Saudis against you. We want to avoid doing that at all costs.
3. The message is for Israel, yes, you want to target the Sunni Block next, but now we are sitting a few KM across your border. So, think before you act, we won't hesitate.
4. The message is to the USA, yes, we are much smaller country, and way smaller economy, but still we can, to some extent, become a security provider and in fact GCC help us and give us money we can expand our forces to such an extent that we can not only keep huge size in Pakistan but also in entire GCC.
5. Last message is for the GCC, trust us, help us build our economy as well as the Armed Forces, and we can provide you security in return.

In other words, one move is meant to give several such messages.
