‌Two Republican members of Congress are calling on the Trump administration to empower the National Guard to address potential drone-related threats and ensure a “unified federal security posture” at the upcoming World Cup games.

The letter by US Representatives Michael McCaul and Elijah Crane, who both sit on the House of Representatives’ Committee on Homeland Security, was sent to US Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche and Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth on Friday.
This is a valid concern. Especially in light of the fact that a shipment of 15 agricultural drones was recently stolen:

New article saying the drones were recovered:

Is anyone here planning on travelling to the USA to watch the World Cup? Or planning to go to matches if they are living in the USA?

Most people I ask here in the UK are giving it a pass. Curious if that is my bubble of people or a more widespread sentiment.

a more widespread sentiment.
this
everywhere i look , people are not happy with it .
the price gouging, security issue ( ICE ) ,some fans not allowed to see their country play for the first time in the WC
also half time shows .
i feel its even worse than qatar 2022 ,
also now trump telling fifa to kick out iran ??

I won't be attending in person. Here is the list of cities the matches will be held:

I've been to all of them. Most I've no desire to go back.

Not going. Though I haven't been personally to a world cup since 2006. My circle of friends has been to many, including Qatar most recently, but they are not going to this one due to (a) security fears, (b) ridiculous pricing, (c) unfriendly local initiatives (e.g. where is the free public transport for match ticket holders??), (d) and FIFA actually encouraging this uncivilised behaviour. Don't get me started on half time shows!

England fixtures are in Boston, Texas and New Jersey.

Canada and Mexico may have been options but the fixtures there are of less interest. Mexico isn't very attractive because of security issues, although Azteca Stadium would certainly be a beautiful and most iconic stadium to visit at least once.

All in all, it will sadly be a damp squib of a tournament and nobody really cares who will win.

btw do u watch soccer ??
i feel its gaining traction in the US
As a general rule, no. When my oldest granddaughter played youth soccer, we did go to quite a few games.

In this case, for the World Cup yes, I will be watching. As this is for national pride.

The 1994 world cup was brilliant. Alexei Lalas stole the show for USA, who were outstanding as hosts. The tournament worked well too, with the two best teams deservedly reaching the final. Maradona in his swansong tournament, Baggio and Romario at their peaks, Diana Ross making us laugh in the opening ceremony - great tournament all round.

I cannot see this one coming anywhere close for numerous reasons, both football related and non-football related.

Nevertheless, good luck to your team, who are yet to emulate the successes of the USA women's teams over many years.

with all the expensive airline tickets and most cutting and cancelling flights, people are concerned.
Nobody wants to end up in ICE Detention at the US airports/border. Its a big red flag for visitors. Add to that the extreme transportation to venue prices for buses.
Hotels are still empty, nobody booking those expensive hotel rooms.

i'm surprised with all the inflation everywhere, people still wanna go??

Just watch it on TV at home, its better and cheaper

Who do you guys think will win the world cup. I have top 3 teams winning the cup. Spain, France or England, my gut says England will win it, after 60 years of gap.

I can tell you with 100000% certainty, that England WILL NOT win the world cup. "It is not coming home, not now and not ever again..."

Spain, France, Germany, Brazil are my take.

I genuinely can't see Brazil winning the WC while they're still coddling Vinicius. His club form has been terrible and he has been consistently underwhelming at international level for some time now. If I'm picking contenders, it's Germany and France. The players they're building around right now are dominating, in rhythm, and proving it in the CL.

France or Spain would also be my picks. Spain need Yamal to be fully fit, then they would probably edge it over France as a more all round balanced and talented team though France's strikers will be devastating if they click.

Might go to the ones in Arlington, I live close to the AT&T stadium. Maybe SF too, mostly depends on how many seats are reserved.
That's good to know. I will be in the DFW area about the first week of August. We can meet up at Hurtado BBQ for some good ol' burnt ends.
