The Shooting Sports: A discussion on the various shooting disciplines with AZ_HighCountry

So, having a Shotmarker electronic target makes things nice. The idea of setting up a target a couple hundred or more yards out, firing a few rounds, dutifully walking out to look at holes, paste them, walk back, and repeat the process is nothing but a memory now. Once calibrated, the e-target lets you see right where you're hitting. And, at the end of the day's firing, or strings, if you saved your data, it will also export it into a nicely formatted .CSV file.

Here are the results of some sighter shots this morning:

Target was set at 200 yards and I was firing from the prone position, slung in of course.

So how much data is too much? The nice thing is, and why today's zeroing was on a clean face, I could confirm the target was properly "zeroed" in the app. Further, since the reference coordinates are based on the target face center, I could get the actual measurements to verify everything is being recorded correctly.

Also! Notice the velocity. That is terminal velocity. Very useful for correlating back against your chrono as part of load development. I did not take the chrono today. Maybe on Friday or Saturday.

but you know walking to the target is quite meditative too. Beside all this little things also help you that time in between to have your rifle barrels to cool down :-).

Yeah, we did neglect to tell you that part, didn't we? And, that is why when I'm on the range, you will find me double plugged. I'll have both ear plugs as well as a pair of over the ear muffs similar to what you're wearing. After years of NO hearing protection, as well as being married and exposure to other loud noises, my hearing has a very noticeable loss.

That said, the more you shoot the better you get. When I was out yesterday, there were four other guys already there. I recognized two of them from competitions in PHX. The few hours we were out there was more of a social than it was shooting. That's half the fun of shooting: the social interaction.
In movies and videos shooting look easy, and not as loud as real life.. we (group of friends) may go back on another trip, but not to indoor range, this time we are looking for something outdoor, and group want to try a AR-15 next time, If we go and did rent a AR I will see if i will shoot it too see how that feel, but even a Glock19 got some good power.

If you ever get to my neck of the desert, you'll be introduced to this and its brother:

looks nice but also expensive, I like S&W response and i pretty sure the gun i shoot with was a response. Its around 799$ on the website but with some attachments it will look just as cool as any standard rifle :D

The most expensive part on the rifle was the suppressor along with the tax stamp. I did have to register the lower in order to SBR (short barreled rifle) it. That was another $200.

Outside of having a barrel, which I then bought, already had all the other parts laying around. So I built it one afternoon. After I had the stamps of course. And, it shoots just fine. Haven't had a single hiccup with it.

That Response looks like it could be some fun. A proper optic, with a laser........good times await.

I can see why people are glued to shooting sports, it is fun but i still see more harm in civilians having guns than benefits, maybe its just me. My supervisor offer to sell one of his suppressor/red dot sight for a lot cheap if i ever buy a gun, which i still am not sure. Plus the price is another factor, i mean guns are not cheap for sure. I always had a impression that guns are cheap in US given how so many people own more than 1-2 guns of different size, heck even my ex-father in law who was "Poor" owns a lot of them including 2 AR-15s, 1 big a$$ sniper, 1 hunting rifle, 3-4 pistols and many many ammo boxes.

It all comes down to training and understanding. I've taken a couple of anti-gun types out, started them off on a .22, and before you knew it, they were hooked.

Education is key. Firearms are not bad nor are they evil. It is people who misuse firearms that are the problem.

If you were to walk into my house, you'd probably have a stroke with what you would see.

@RescueRanger on the other hand would likely try to move in. Or @Waz.

this seems reasonably priced and cool looking gun, but its .22 caliber which idk if are similar to 9mm ?

As for Guns i agree they are not evil, its just a tool that can used for harm and to protect, Terrorists/bad people use guns to harm and Army/military use the guns to protect, but my issue is that like you said you have quite the arsenal at your house, but what if at some point in your life you lost your mind? or lost concept of reality and become delusional or paranoid, now you are someone mentally unstable but with the same destructive power at your disposal, i am not saying you are but I just use you as example, guns are just tools but humans are unpredictable, a simple quite and normal looking dude can lost their minds after one traumatic incident and goes out on rampage, we see it over and over in school shootings in US, and that's why I mainly oppose guns, not because of Guns itself but the fragile minds of us human beings.

But this is not the topic of the thread, don't want to ruin this one :) tell me what do you think about the gun i posted above?

I don't think you need a tax stamp anymore :D

S&W makes good kit. I've seen a number of their AR variants. They are well-built. I own a number of S&W pistols. They are very well built.

For a rifle that is in .22cal, it will be fun, and cheap, to shoot. Can get a lot of training in without breaking the bank.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for a .22 in an AR-style platform.

Yeah that's what my friend said, S&W is good company and .22 is not high as 55.6 or other rifle rounds, plus its not gonna be hard on your wallet. The gun that i posted, putting a red dot and suppressor will give it a bad ass tactical look, definitely fun to shoot with :D

Yes I would ask permission to take a look at your collection.
Blame US films during my childhood for me becoming a gun nut;
